Océ JetStream Family Sets New Standard for Ultra-High Speed, Full Color Inkjet Printing

Press release from the issuing company

December 4, 2007 - Trumbull, CT and Boca Raton, FL - Océ, a global leader in digital document management and delivery, introduces the groundbreaking high-speed Océ JetStream full-color, inkjet product family. The new series redefines productivity and quality standards for ultra-high-volume, full-color production printing, giving commercial printers and others a strong competitive edge. A hefty duty cycle handles well over 60 million impressions per month with a maximum monthly capacity of 18 million linear feet. Offering unprecedented versatility, ease of use and integration into existing workflows, the new Océ JetStream family is distinguished by total flexibility as well as raw speed.
"The new Océ JetStream systems offer many advantages over other high-volume color inkjet printers. By focusing on integration, operation and uptime, the Océ JetStream family delivers significantly higher productivity than competing systems, ensuring that customers have all the power they need to capture lucrative new business," said Mal Baboyian, President, Océ North America, Production Printing Systems. "The new series is expected to lead its category in flexibility, quality and speed."
Target Markets: Direct Mail and Transaction Segments
The Océ JetStream systems offer lower operating costs, longer uptime and a wider range of paper choices than comparable products in its class. Service bureaus, graphic arts operations, letter shops, offset printers and other commercial and corporate printers can deliver full-color, variable data output with exceptional quality at high speeds and maximum productivity.
"Driven by personalized direct mail and TransPromo applications, increases in digital color output are projected to be in the billions of pages," said Noel Ward, Executive Editor, On Demand Journal. "To tap into that, data centers, service bureaus, and others in the direct mail and transactional segments are eager for full color and greater productivity. Ultra-high-speed inkjet printing is an excellent fit for these markets, and with its new JetStream family Océ has joined the color inkjet race at full throttle, providing versatility and workflow integration in addition to sheer speed. "
Building on Océ Job Appropriate Color Strategy
The Océ JetStream series joins an impressive line-up of Océ digital color solutions and extends the Océ Job Appropriate Colorâ strategy to the ultra-high-speed inkjet market. Customers can use just the right amount of color based on the business objective of the job. Along with the Océ VarioStream 9240 and Océ ColorStream 10000 systems, the Océ JetStream family provides customers with a complete range of price, print quality, speed and duty cycles for their full-color requirements.
Groundbreaking Product Family Offers Choices
The groundbreaking series includes the Océ JetStream 1100 single-engine system and the Océ JetStream 2200 twin system. The Océ JetStream 1100 system delivers full-process color at 492 fpm. With a print width of 20.3" and paper width of 20.5", the Océ JetStream 1100 system can produce up to 1,074 letter impressions per minute in two-up simplex format. Exclusive to the Océ JetStream 1100 system is duplex printing with a single engine at up to 1,074 letter impressions per minute. By using a narrow web (9.5" or 242 mm max), the Océ JetStream 1100 system can print on one side, then turn the form and print on the back side on the same engine without a loss in speed or performance.
The two-engine Océ JetStream 2200 system prints full-process color at speeds up to 500 fpm. With a print width of 20.3" and paper width of 20.5", the Océ JetStream 2200 system can produce up to 2,148 letter impressions per minute in two-up duplex format. The Océ JetStream 1100 version is fully field-upgradeable to the Océ JetStream 2200 model.
The Secret of High-Speed, High-Quality Inkjet Output
The Océ JetStream family uses state-of-the-art Océ DigiDot piezoelectric drop-on-demand inkjet technology. It produces small, variable drop sizes resulting in higher quality images, smoother half-tones and stunning color with less ink and no waste. The variable drop sizes let users change the density of any application to best suit the job and media, resulting in page coverage superior to competitive systems. Océ DigiDot technology also promotes error-free post-processing, because the printing doesn't cause the paper to curl. The print heads are designed to minimize operator intervention for cleaning and maintenance. The print heads have the longest head life in the industry, resulting in even more productive, uninterrupted uptime.
Océ DigiDot technology also allows multi-level printing by varying drop sizes within the application for richer gray scales, contour-free gradients and finer details. This option brings higher quality to graphics applications. The combination of multi-level printing and the range of quality, speed and media options are unmatched in today's high-speed inkjet market.
New Controller for Maximum Processing Power
Powered by the new Océ SRA MP IPDS controller, Océ JetStream printers are designed for seamless integration with industry-standard workflows, as well as for the rigorous demands and data rates of high-speed full-color printing. As a result, companies will find it easier to embed new applications such as variable personalization and TransPromo documents into existing IPDS workflows and document processes. With powerful Océ PRISMA workflow software and connectivity to other proven front-end products, the Océ JetStream system performs in any environment without changing the existing workflow. Drawing on more than 15 years invested in high speed AFP/IPDS controller development and the Océ charter membership in the AFP Consortium, the SRA MP supports the latest advances in AFP color technology.
The Océ JetStream systems offer an integrated roll-to-roll configuration with a tight web for precise registration and control. A high-speed paper path produces CMYK full-process color output at approximately 500 feet per minute with 600x600 dpi resolution. The system supports a wide range of papers and weights, and no special media is required. Paper processing options include a cross-perforation device for folding and a punch unit for creating pin feed holes. Optional roll slitter and folding units increase finishing options. Integrated finishing allows seamless workflow automation for uninterrupted production that requires little manual intervention.
Quality Verification Assured
Océ pursues every opportunity to help customers squeeze more productivity out of their workflows, including the processes that support the actual printing. Optional integrated verification cameras available only on Océ systems let operators view photos of output, so that they can check print quality without stopping the printers. As a result, document quality is assured, operators greatly reduce the time they must spend on manual verification, and the printers don't require frequent stops.
Built-in synchronization technology provides an important capability for printers in the transaction market, when front and back pages and document sets must match. Océ solves the problem with its patented proven data integration and synchronization.
Océ JetStream systems are available for controlled release in the first quarter of 2008.
