Canon Introduces imagePROGRAF iPF605

Press release from the issuing company

Boston, March 4, 2008 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of office imaging systems, inkjet technology and digital photography equipment, today announced the latest addition to its large format printer line-up – the 24 inch imagePROGRAF iPF605 large format printer. This iPF605 is designed to ideally support the printing needs of technical document users working with Computer-Aided Design (CAD), GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) applications as well as entry-level users in general office environments.

The new Canon imagePROGRAF iPF605 printer builds on the Company's five-color dye/pigment Reactive ink system line of printers, which includes the imagePROGRAFiPF720, iPF710, iPF610 and the iPF500. The iPF605 joins the iPF610 as part of Canon's 24-inch printer portfolio, sharing much of the same advanced technology. The streamlined iPF605 prints from both roll media as well as cut sheet through the front loading manual feed. Without a cassette tray, the iPF605 printer is aimed to be an affordable solution for personal and small workgroup users producing large format technical drawings. The printer's small footprint fits nicely into a smaller work environment, while producing uncompromised print quality seen on Canon's larger printer models.

"Today's technical markets demand sharp, clear and eye-catching prints to make an impression and deliver a powerful message. The new imagePROGRAF iPF605 will print the most detailed architectural, automotive or product development design renderings accurately, sharply and precisely," said Jim Rosetta, vice president and general manager, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A.

The iPF605 offers amazing printing speed taking as little as 33 seconds* to complete an A1-sized full-density color plot (33.1 x 23.4 inches). This incredible speed is enabled by Canon's advanced PF-03 print head with 1.07 inch print swaths, and equipped with 2,560 nozzles per color (C, M, Y, K) with 5,120 nozzles for matte black. To process incoming files quickly and accurately the iPF605 printer also uses Canon's L-COA processor, found in the Company's larger printer models. Also to ensure the reliable processing of large-sized files and plots the printer is equipped with 256MB of on-board memory. The iPF605 boasts line accuracy of ±0.1%**, minimum line weight at 0.02mm***, and the maximum printing resolution of 2400x1200 dpi.

The iPF605 printer helps make large format printing easier than ever with included workflow software such as Canon's Printer Driver for Windows and Macintosh, with a Free Layout feature for host-based nesting, Real Preview for real-time viewing to allow users to modify settings "Print" is selected, and the powerful imageRUNNER Enlargement Copy feature for enlarging PDFs created by Color imageRUNNER devices. Technical drawing users can feel at ease about their software compatibility, the iPF605 printer supports the widely available HP-GL/2 and HP-RTL page description languages. Also included are AutoCAD(r) HDI Driver, Digital Photo Front-Access software for easy photo printing from digital cameras as well as the new PosterArtist Lite- Poster Creation Software.

Canon's PosterArtist Lite enables users to create and print large-format applications such as posters and banners without the need for expensive professional software. PosterArtist Lite includes QuickCopy, which turns CanoScan desktop scanners into an enlargement copier by directly linking the scanner to the printer with a touch of a button. More information on PosterArtist Lite and Canon's optional PosterArtist 2007 can be found at Canon's new web-site www.usa.canon.com/posterartist. This web site includes interactive software tutorials and has a downloadable trial version for users to try PosterArtist on their own computer.

The five-color dye/pigment Reactive ink system includes four highly colorfast dye ink cartridges each containing 130ml**** and two pigment-based matte black cartridges providing up to 260ml of matte black for longer uninterrupted print operation. Canon's ink formulation is designed for optimized print image quality on more than 20 types of Canon Genuine print media including bond paper such as Universal Bond, High Resolution Coated Bond for razor sharp line drawing and vivid graphic rendering, photo paper such as Glossy and Satin Photographic Paper in variety of weights for posters and presentations, and film such as Double Matte Film and Clear Film.

The imagePROGRAF iPF605 printer will be available through authorized Canon U.S.A. dealers by mid-April 2008, with a manufacturer suggested selling price of $2,295.
