QDirect.SCAN now enabled for Xerox EIP

Press release from the issuing company

Rochester, NY, February 25th, 2008 – Rochester Software Associates, Inc. (RSA) an industry-leading supplier of print workflow solutions, today announced that QDirect.SCAN, RSA's successful Scan to Print Center solution, now integrates directly with Xerox multifunction printers (MFP) by leveraging Xerox's Extensible Interface Platform (EIP).  EIP, a technology inside many Xerox multifunction systems, allows independent software vendors and developers to easily create applications for the device and to customize the touch screen. The new offering enables customers to streamline the print process, saving users valuable time and money.

QDirect.SCAN allows end users to scan hardcopy jobs and specify ticketing options, such as the number copies, single or double-sided pages and account billing codes, directly from an MFP to a centralized print center.   With EIP, QDirect.SCAN adds more features and eliminates manual entry. Users can select from full-text drop-down menus right at the touch screen of the MFP.  The customized user interface offers a familiar web-based experience directly on the MFP and allows for many more ticketing choices than before.  For example, users can select a wide range of paper and finishing options such as blue, pink, green, or yellow paper stock, as well as three-hole punch or stapling.

Each job is then transmitted, along with an electronic ticket, to a production printer where it can be produced without any human intervention.  The end user immediately receives a confirmation page, printed at the MFP, complete with their specified ticketing options, and optionally with thumbnails of the job and account balance.

QDirect.SCAN has been very popular, particularly in the educational marketplace, where teachers appreciate the time savings.  Teachers report saving two hours a week as they no longer stand in line, making their own copies.  Instead, they can be in the classroom, focusing on their lesson plans and working with students.  In fact, many current QDirect.SCAN operations promise that jobs submitted by 3:00 p.m. will be delivered the next morning by 7:30 a.m.  Plus, submitters can take advantage of more options than they would have had if they printed the job themselves.  By submitting jobs into the print center, users leverage the power of production printers with numerous finishing devices and a plethora of paper and finishing options, and the district offices appreciate the cost savings of using centralized, efficient equipment.

"We are very excited to be able to offer our popular QDirect.SCAN solution with Xerox EIP-enabled MFPs," noted Kevin Beatson, RSA's Vice President of Sales.  "With the powerful interface of Xerox's EIP platform, we can deliver a great submission experience along with our legendary reliability on the production side."

With QDirect.SCAN, the print center offers greater efficiency, higher quality output, and reliable performance.  QDirect.SCAN not only increases the demand for centralized production printing, but encourages the adoption of supported MFPs.  Thanks to QDirect.SCAN, many organizations have added not only production systems to handle the increased demand, but also numerous MFPs, distributed throughout their campus for ease of submission.

QDirect.SCAN QDirect.SCAN will be on display in RSA's booth (#625) at On Demand March 3rd - 6th in Boston and is available through Xerox direct sales, agents, dealers and Global Imaging Systems.
