New Goss Newsliner press to modernize newspaper printing in China

Press release from the issuing company

More than doubling its circulations since 1980 to 450,000 copies daily, the need to expand printing capacity has become high on the agenda for the publisher of Xi'an Daily and Xi'an Evening News. The recent order for a 4x2 Goss Newsliner press is just the beginning of its pressroom modernization plan.

The new 75,000-copies-per-hour Newsliner press consists of two four-high printing towers, one 2:3:3 jaw folder and two load-bearing reelstands. The press will not only improve the productivity of the Xi'an Daily printing center, but also increase its color capacity – providing 16 broadsheet pages in straight run and 32 pages of broadsheet pages in collect mode.

Located in the home of the "Terracotta Army", Xi'an Daily and its sister paper Xian Evening News have been the voices of this 3000-year-old city for almost six decades. Since the 1990s, as part of the economic revival of interior China's central and northwest regions, the city of Xi'an has re-emerged as an important cultural, industrial and educational center of the region. This has contributed to the fast growth of the Xi'an Daily News Company in both circulation and advertising revenue.

When asked about this recent investment, Mr. Zhao Hai Wang, general manager of Xian Daily Printing Center explained, "Compared with other compelling products considered in the bidding process, the Goss Newsliner press has a more solid design and higher automation. The features of the Newsliner press, especially the solid stainless steel cylinders and bearers, give us confidence in the reliability of the new equipment.

"The professionalism of the Goss International team also exemplified the high quality perceived in the Goss brand. Even though we haven't used Goss equipment before, we have seen and heard about this high quality from other Goss users." Mr. Zhao continued.

Since being introduced in 1991, the Goss Newsliner press series has become one of the most popular double-width presses in China, Japan, Korea and many other markets. The President of Goss International Japan Corporation Mr. Yasuzawa summarized, "Through continuous developments and technological improvements, the Newsliner press offers full automation, high versatility and cost efficiency for newspaper printing. We are happy to offer leading technology and service to Xi'an Daily Printing Center and we're confident this will be the beginning of a long-term business relationship."
