Press release from the issuing company

Santa Ana, CA – March 26, 2007 - At On Demand 2007, Duplo USA will showcase a broad range of its digital print finishing solutions which cater to the needs of the print on demand market. Attendees will preview Duplo’s extensive product line-up running live applications in its booth (#400) as well as in its partner booths of Canon USA and HP. Show Highlights On Demand will set the stage for the U.S. debut of Duplo’s new DC-615 Slitter/Cutter/Creaser as well as showcase the newly launched high production DPB-500 Perfect Binder, UJ-500AS Anti-Static Air Jogger, Ultra 14 UV Coater, and MR-720 PUR Perfect Binder. Demonstrating start to finish JDF workflow, live applications will also be shown on the JDF-enabled DC-645 Digital Production Color Finisher linked to a Xerox DocuColor 260 printer via OAI’s Symbio production workflow software. Si Nguyen, product marketing director at Duplo USA says, “Digital print finishing and workflow automation is the core focus of Duplo’s latest product offerings. The growing recognition within the industry of just how much the finishing process can increase productivity, profitability, and the significant role it plays within the overall production workflow enables us to demonstrate at On Demand how productivity and output can be optimized through our innovative and leading edge finishing solutions.” Duplo will also feature the SCC (Slitter/Cutter/Creaser) equipped DSF-2000 Near-line Bookletmaking System with ASM-500 ‘squareback’ finisher, DF-1000 Air-Suction Folder, DT-900 In-line Fold and Tab System, its flagship System 5000, DP-S850 Duplicator, the new Docucate Copier/MFP line, and much more. DC-615 Slitter/Cutter/Creaser Making On Demand the platform for its official U.S. debut, the new DC-615 produces professional quality, full-bleed documents by slitting, cutting, and creasing digitally printed documents in a single pass. It has the ability to read printed images and automatically adjust and compensate for the common problem of image shift. It slits, cuts, and creases documents in precisely the right place around the image every time, reducing waste and ensuring high quality and optimum productivity. Replacing the popular DC-545HCEX, Duplo is offering the DC-615 at a lower base-model price which can then be customized to each owner’s individual needs to include options never before offered for the DC-545HCEX such as air-knife assist, ultra-sonic double detection, Job Creator software, and a business card stacker. The DC-615 can also manage heavier substrates (up to 300 gsm) and a wide variety of sheet sizes and is ideal for business cards, postcards, photographs, and much more. The successful DC-645 model remains as a next-level option for those customers who require a higher duty cycle, heavier substrates and larger sheet sizes. DC-645 Slitter/Cutter/Creaser Incorporating JDF Workflow Like the DC-615, the heavy-duty DC-645 combines slitting, cutting, and creasing in one product so applications requiring these three functions are handled in a single pass. With a heavier duty cycle and the ability to manage heavier substrates (up to 350 gsm) and larger sheet sizes, the DC-645 has the first and only ultrasonic double detection sensor in the market, a reject tray, and is capable of cutting full-bleed, 30-up business cards on a 14” x 20” sheet size with an optional business card module. With a state-of-the-art user interface, the DC-645 has been specifically developed to support the JDF industry standard. Visitors to the Duplo booth will see the JDF compatible DC-645 being driven by OASymbio software, a revolutionary and competitive end-to-end suite of production management tools, which enables even small-to-medium sized printers to embrace a fully automated JDF workflow environment. The DC-645 will be used in conjunction with a Xerox DocuColor 260 printer on the booth, to show the JDF workflow, from conception to completion. Si Nguyen says, ”The on-stand demonstrations are designed to introduce printers to the profit saving features and opportunities brought to the industry by JDF and UP3i (Universal Printer Pre- and Post- Processing Interface), which lie at the heart of automated printing.” “Ultimately a print line incorporating JDF from start to finish will dramatically cut both production costs and set up times for the printer. Only limited manual intervention is required to run the entire print line, making it easy for even the most inexperienced employee to successfully manage the print run.” DPB-500 Perfect Binder Designed for the print on demand market, the fully-automatic, single-clamp DPB-500 produces a strong bind and quality results. Successfully handling output from both offset and digital devices at speeds of up to 500 cycles per hour, the DPB-500 creates a sleek and professional look on a wide range of applications including books, directories, manuals, magazines, and much more. One of the machine’s key attributes is its easy-to-use integrated controls, which facilitate a book-bound quality with minimal operator skills. It offers state-of-the-art automation, which in turn leads to a reduction in set-up time and costs, making it perfect for short run and variable print. The DPB-500 can also be programmed to automatically perform changeovers for different book thicknesses and is equipped with in-line hinge scoring. Its air-vacuum feeder provides smooth and accurate delivery of the cover to each book every time while cover creasing ensures a professionally presented document. As well as offering economical and efficient short runs, the DPB-500’s highly productive cycle speed makes it suitable for longer run lengths. “We predict that the DPB-500 will be an extremely popular choice for a variety of different print environments, in particular medium volume offset printers, the print-on-demand sector, high-volume in-plant printers, government departments and trade finishing houses,” comments Mr. Nguyen. “With the DPB-500, we are confident that we are offering the market one of the most advanced, fully-automated perfect binding systems that provides as standard, all the features customers are looking for, and that is fully adaptable to meet the needs of both offset, digital, and hybrid print environments,” he adds. UJ-500AS Anti-Static Air Jogger The UJ-500AS Anti-Static Air Jogger is the perfect companion to printing and post-printing equipment as it efficiently jogs paper stacks and reduces static electricity on documents loaded into collators, folders, cutters, and much more. Prior to loading into a printer or collator, jogging paper stacks with the UJ-500AS noticeably reduces paper feed errors such as miss and double feed. A unique vibration system and ionized air-assisted blowing effectively reduces static electricity and ink residue or set-off, while efficiently jogging paper, aligning edges and quickly drying wet ink. Jogging strength and air volume are adjustable according to paper quantity and quality and the UJ-500AS can operate in various settings such as air only, jogger only, reset timer operation, and a time interval difference mode which continuously jogs stacks for a preset period after the air has stopped. With a small footprint and easily portable, the UJ-500AS is deal for any printing or post-printing work environment. Ultra 14 UV Coater The Ultra 14 UV Document Coater adds significant value to any digitally printed or offset document by giving it a glossy and more vibrant appearance instantly. Documents coated with the Ultra 14 are more durable, scratch-resistant, and fingerprint-proof. Ideal for applications such as brochures, postcards, business cards, book covers, posters, and much more, the Ultra 14 provides instantaneous coating and has double-sided coating capabilities. User-friendly controls and features which include dual emergency stop buttons, interlocking safety switches, and a fire sensor ensure optimum operator safety and efficiency. An optional AF-14 Air Feeder handles up to 14” x 20” paper size, 12 pt. stock, and has a generous 4” paper loading capacity. DP-S850 Digital Printing System With a smaller footprint and debuting new masters and ink for superior image quality, Duplo’s DP-S850 has been engineered to be faster, easier to use and less expensive to operate.
