Steve Richardson of Courier wins the H. Howard Flint II Pressroom Manager of the Year Award

Press release from the issuing company

Sewickley, PA, March 26, 2007 -- Web Offset Association and the Flint Group are pleased to announce the recipient of the H. Howard Flint II Pressroom Manager of the Year Award. The recipient is Steve Richardson of Courier Kendallville. Richardson joined Courier Kendallville in 1996 and worked his way up through the ranks. He started as operator on a narrow-web, four-color press. In 1997, Steve was promoted to pressroom supervisor. With continued success, and as Courier Kendallville’s operation expanded, Steve was promoted to pressroom manager in 2005. In four years time, Steve has played an integral part in the successful installation of three state-of-the-art wide-format MAN Roland presses. The MAN Roland Lithoman IV had never been installed for the manufacturing of textbooks, but Steve’s vision and determination proved that Courier could be a leader. Through Steve’s leadership, 48 press employees have been trained, downtime has been decreased by 10 percent, and nets per hour have increased by 19 percent. Steve has been a role model and mentor for many of the press operators, and he is respected by peers, management, and his direct reports. Richardson’s nominators and supporters have made it quite clear that he is well deserving of the award. As one supporter expressed, “Steve’s creativeness in working with his employees to produce high-quality books and meet customer deadlines during the periods when we were expanding the Courier Kendallville Plant was tremendous.” This award is dedicated to the memory of H. Howard Flint II, chairman of Flint Ink, who passed away in 2005. Mr. Flint was an industry luminary and well known for his dedication to training and education. He was a strong supporter of WOA as well as PIA/GATF and the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation. He was active in many areas of the association. The Web Offset Association and the Flint Group will present Richardson with a commemorative plaque and a conference package. Richardson will have the opportunity to recognize a graphic arts school of his choice with a $2,000 scholarship check. The presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, May 1 at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto, Canada during the Offset & Beyond Conference. For more information about the H. Howard Flint II Pressroom Manager of the Year Award or the Offset & Beyond Annual Management and Technical Conference, please contact Teresa Rees at (412)259-1804 or via email at [email protected].
