Canon Showcases the Value Behind The Paper at Its Digital Solutions Forum in Chicago

Press release from the issuing company

June 12, 2007--Showcasing its technologies and offerings that deliver value well beyond the paper, Canon U.S.A., Inc., the nation's overall copier market brand leader(i), today opened its Digital Solutions Forum in Chicago. With interactive product displays and customer seminars, this invitation-only, three-day Canon event puts the spotlight on the Company's award-winning color, production, workflow and service offerings that have helped earn the reputation as the "First in Color."

"At this year's Digital Solutions Forum, we will show how our customers and partners are putting Canon technology and innovation to use to solve real business challenges, from the office desktop to production and wide format printing," said Tod Pike, senior vice president, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A. "Canon's color heritage has created a strong foundation that has allowed the Company to lead the market for three decades. Today, Canon remains a market innovator committed to and investing in digital workflow solutions, services and technologies that help our dealers and customers efficiently enhance their capabilities and achieve a competitive advantage. With offerings such as the new imagePRESS C7000VP digital press and Color imageRUNNER C5185 Series, we are poised to revolutionize the world of color printing yet again."

Canon's Color Heritage: 20 Years of Digital Color and 1,000,000 Digital Color Units Sold

Since launching its first color copier 30 years ago in 1977 and its first digital color copier (CLC-1) in 1987, Canon continues to lead the way in technology innovation to become a market leader and a brand name that is synonymous with color. Canon recently reached another milestone in its illustrious color history with the sale of its 1,000,000th digital color copier.

At the Digital Solutions Forum, Canon further solidifies its position in the color market with the introduction of the Color imageRUNNER C5185 Series. The Color imageRUNNER C5185 Series is designed to transform the way businesses approach and manage their color print output by providing a solution that offers increased functionality with less complexity.

With robust functionality, advanced print engine technology, superior paper-handling and professional finishing options, the Color imageRUNNER C5185 Series models are ideal multifunction devices for the office. This new Color imageRUNNER model produces fast output at up to 51 pages-per-minute (ppm) for both color and black-and-white letter-sized documents, has top-of-the-line paper-handling capabilities and up to 5,000-sheet paper capacity. The standard 100-sheet Single-Pass Duplexing Automatic Document Feeder on the new Color imageRUNNER devices scans both sides of originals simultaneously at speeds up to 100 images-per-minute (ipm) at 300 dots-per-inch (dpi) resolution, helping to improve document distribution, communication and archiving.

Production Printing: Revolutionizing the World of Digital Printing

From personalized direct mail pieces to the automated book factory, Canon will demonstrate how the Company intends to revolutionize digital production printing. Last year, Canon put its stake in the ground in the color production market with the introduction of the imagePRESS C7000VP and imagePRESS C1 digital presses.

The imagePRESS C7000VP, which will begin shipping to customers in June, is currently installed at several beta sites, including Micropage, a New York City-based commercial printer, and one of the featured speakers at Canon's Digital Solutions Forum. According to Brian Boyajian, director, Sales and Marketing, Micropage, "The color accuracy that we are seeing produced by the imagePRESS is excellent and far superior to previous digital presses we have used. When a gallery or design firm has come in and requested offset, we've shown samples run on the imagePRESS and the customer agreed on the quality and asked that we run the job on the imagePRESS over offset. Since March of this year, we have run more than 400 paying jobs on the imagePRESS consisting of more than 410,000 impressions."

In addition to its revolutionary production devices, Canon will show a number of hardware and software applications and tools as part of a total digital production solution. Canon's imagePRESS Workflow Solutions Program is a collection of Canon branded and third-party hardware and software solutions that focus on key workflows in production printing environments to maximize efficiencies, and help printers build solutions and grow a profitable digital business.
