New KBA Colora pressline to bring more color

Press release from the issuing company

Cambridge Newspapers, publishers of the Cambridge Evening News, is investing in new KBA Colora presses for its Milton production site to meet the growing demand for color from both advertisers and contract print customers. When fully operational in late summer 2008, the new line will offer 192pp of back to back color in a single pass at speeds of up to 70,000 cph. The new Colora presses will replace the company's existing Albert A 510X anilox line which was already extended by two KBA Colora four-high towers three years ago. The KBA Colora press line will be housed in an extended press hall on which work will commence in the spring of 2007 and complete by December. The installation of the new presses will begin in November 2007. The final press configuration will comprise six four-color towers, six Pastostar reelstands, a new EAE press control and pre-setting system and two KBA KF5 (2:5:5) jaw folders. The new installation will allow Cambridge Newspapers to effectively split the press into two 96pp full-color presses. KBA Patras automated reel handling and a KBA section stitcher capable of stitching at full press speed will also be part of the package. High levels of quality and productivity are ensured by way of automatic blanket washing and an automatic ink supply system as well as color and cut-off register controls. Cambridge Newspapers, part of Yattendon Investment Trust, also publishes eleven weekly newspapers of its own as well as a range of other weekly and monthly newsprint titles. The company also acts as a contract printer for a growing number of external publishers, a sector it plans to expand following the new press investment. David Fordham, CEO of Cambridge Newspapers, says: "This investment demonstrates the enormous confidence and commitment our Group continues to have in the future of print within our developing multi-media portfolio." Managing director Andy Gough adds: "We are currently operating within enormous restrictions in our press operation as we fight to meet customer demands for color with limited capacity. The new press line will open up a whole variety of new business opportunities and will improve life in the pressroom no end." He continues: "Most important of all will be the enormous benefits that this investment will bring to our advertisers, our readers and our contract print customers. This is an extremely exciting project."
