Interquest Reports on Digital Printing in Government Forum

Charlottesville, VA (December 6, 2006) - Interquest, a leading market and technology research and consulting firm serving the digital printing and publishing industry, today reported that over 125 document professionals attended its first Digital Printing in Government Forum held in Washington D.C. on November 15. Attendees were mainly Federal government users from publishing and graphic services, print and mail services, IS/data center operations, and procurement departments. Other attendees included State government printing professionals along with print providers serving this market. As part of the event, Interquest highlighted the results of a study it recently conducted in the government marketplace. In his keynote address Robert C. Tapella, chief of Staff, Office of the Public Printer. provided an update of GPO's document production and distribution strategy. He also discussed initiatives GPO is spearheading to bring the benefits of digital printing to its customers. Other presenters included Jane Bloodworth, Manager, Printing, Graphics, and Map Design, The World Bank; Leroy Corbin, Vice President Business Development, NPC, Inc. along with Pedro L. Mendez and Donovan L. Benton-respectively Chief and Publishing Program Specialist, Functional Publishing Branch of the IRS-as well as Meredith Mayes, Digital Solutions Manager, Colorcraft of Virginia and Mack Strauss from DAPS. "This was a very informative event and I really got a lot out of my government peers' presentations," said John Gravelle, Printing Specialist, U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). Wilma Grant, Publishing Manager/Office of Data Systems - U.S. Supreme Court, agreed on the value of hearing from other government users about the issues they face and how they are resolving them. "I also enjoyed several discussions with industry vendors at their display section, having the opportunity to review (and take away) quality print samples produced on the newest digital equipment using a variety of papers. The statistics about digital printing in government were also valuable to me," she added. The seminar was sponsored by a number of leading industry vendors, including Canon, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Kodak, Morgana, NPC, OcÈ, Pitney Bowes, Riso, and Xerox. It is supported by the Federal Electronic Document Systems Association (FEDS), the Interagency Council on Printing & Publications Services (ICPPS), and the Xplor Mid Atlantic Region (MAR), as well as Innes Publishing and HighVolume Printing.
