Xitron and OKI Printing Solutions partner to offer short-run digital press

Ann Arbor, Michigan - December 4, 2006 - Xitron, the prepress industry's leading independent developer and integrator of Raster Image Processors, RIP management software and workflow solutions; today announced it has signed an agreement with Oki Data Americas, which markets its products under the OKI Printing Solutions brand, to supply a custom LED engine to be used in the Xitron Prism short-run digital press. The Xitron Prism is an LED based plain paper digital press, capable of producing high quality output of up to 36 pages per minute in color, and up to 40 pages per minute in black and white. Designed for he commercial printer, the Prism is powered by the Navigator GPS Prism Digital Press Controller. "Commercial printers need predictable color and screening across a variety of output devices," stated R. Patrick French, Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Xitron. "OKI Printing Solutions was able to provide a custom engine with which we could incorporate our RIP and workflow technology, resulting in a complete digital press solution for our customers." "Xitron's long-term expertise in the graphic arts industry makes them a perfect partner as Oki Data Americas continues to expand into new market segments." The Prism utilizes Single Pass Color Digital technology and long-lasting, individually replaceable toner cartridges and image drums resulting in fewer interventions and increased productivity. Jobs up to Tabloid Extra (12" x 18") and banners up to 12.9" x 47" may be printed on the Xitron Prism. Paper weights from17 lb. - 72 lb. bond are supported by the Prism. Trays 1 thru 4 support 17 lb.-57.5 lb. bond (64-216 gsm); Multi-purpose tray supports 17 lb.-72 lb. bond (64-270 gsm); duplex supports 20 lb.-32 lb. bond (75-120 gsm). Powering the Xitron Prism is the Navigator Select GPS Prism Controller with an integrated workflow. Based on the Harlequin-core RIP technology from Global Graphics Software, this powerful controller provides a commercial printer quality RIP and workflow solution. "Global Graphics has been looking at ways to make digital print more accessible to those printers who want to introduce a digital press into their shop alongside their analog, Computer to Plate and direct image press equipment," notes Ralph Lloyd, Global Graphics' VP of product marketing. "The Harlequin RIP is the ideal RIPing engine for a device like the Xitron Prism because of its track record as a proven print engine not only in the analog world, but also for a wide variety of digital devices." The hybrid workflow design allows up to three Prism units to be run from a single Prism Controller offering greater flexibility and affordability than similar solutions on the market. The Prism Controller may become the heart of your prepress department by upgrading it to a full Navigator GPS capable of driving more than 250 different devices. Printers with greater production volume may integrate one or more Prism controllers into their Navigator GPS workflow with RIP Manager 3.1. RIP Manager features include an integrated Viewer for desktop soft-proofing, powerful job management control, ability to create automated workflow steps to reduce errors associated with manual intervention from operators and a PDF option that provides PDF creation and preflighting as automated steps in a workflow. Preflighting is handled with the industry standard Enfocus library built into the RIP Manager PDF option. Pricing for the Xitron Prism begins at under $10,000 including the digital press, and Xitron's Prism Navigator Select GPS software RIP.
