Global Wide Format UV-Curable Inkjet Ink Revenues Expected to Surpass Hardware Revenues by 2010

Press release from the issuing company

(Weymouth, MA) November 14, 2006 - According to new forecast data from InfoTrends, the wide format UV-curable inkjet printer market represents an opportunity of nearly $500 million on a worldwide basis and is expected to grow more than 24% per year. This market is still in its early growth stages, but it will have a significant impact on competing technologies in the coming years. New printer models that have roll-feed options and image quality improvements are driving growth, making it possible for wide format UV-curable inkjet printers to produce a wider variety of applications and increase the size of the addressable market for these types of printers. Environmental friendliness and ease of printing on rigid surfaces are also market drivers. InfoTrends expects unit shipments continue to experience double-digit growth through 2010. By the end of the forecast period, however, ink revenues are expected to surpass hardware revenues as the largest revenue component of the wide format UV-curable inkjet market. Because of this, it is critical for vendors to capture the sale of ink consumed by the growing installed base. "Unlike the wide format solvent inkjet ink market, there are not yet a great deal of third-party UV-curable inkjet ink suppliers," commented Tim Greene, a Director at InfoTrends. "This is partly due to the relative complexity of the formulation of UV-curable inkjet inks and party because the installed base of these devices has not yet reached critical mass."
