Moquin Press Installs Second Heidelberg Speedmaster Xl 105

Press release from the issuing company

KENNESAW, Ga., November 15, 2006 - Moquin Press of Belmont, Calif. has increased its pressroom capacity by 30 percent in just six weeks after installing its second Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105, according to President Greg Moquin. The San Francisco Bay Area trade printer, which installed its first Speedmaster XL 105 last year, does a fast-paced, high-volume business serving print brokers, in-house print shops, designers and other trade professionals with high production standards and even higher expectations. "Our steadily increasing volume demanded that we do something to keep pace with customer demands," Moquin said. Thanks to the new Speedmaster XL 105, the company has opened a window of production large enough to accommodate both its regularly scheduled work plus anything else its customers may need. As a printer to the trade, Moquin's business thrives on the XL 105's speed and flexibility. "The XL 105's productivity at speeds to 18,000 sph gives us a decisive competitive edge," Moquin said. In addition, the XL 105's larger (29.53 x 41.34") format size has made "a huge difference to us," he added. "We run a wide variety of different stocks. Because I can get more up on a sheet, there's not a lot of waste. And I'm the only shop in town that can turn out a 28 x 41" poster." According to Moquin, the XL 105 handles substrates from onionskin to 40-point board with ease ñ and with little or no noise beyond the steady hum of the machinery. The Speedmaster XL 105 is designed to achieve the industry's highest output with significantly faster changeover times and the highest real production speeds. The benefits of its full automation include: - Preset Plus Feeder, a totally roller and brush-free, single suction belt infeed table, ensures sheets are fed stress free, aligned precisely, and travel smoothly into the first unit. All material air adjustments are preset and storable. - A new AirTransfer system combined with venturi sheet guide plates allows sheets of any stock to travel mark-free and register-true -- even at full production speeds to 18,000 sph. - Autoplate Advanced changes plates fast, precisely and reliably. - A multi-functional Hycolor inking and dampening system with standard or short inking mode always delivers the right quantity of ink. Remote-controlled oscillating ink form rollers and distribution roller secure maximum print quality on the most difficult jobs. The standard Vario system and the new roller wash-up reduce wash-up time by 30 to 50 percent, making the Hycolor unit complete. - The new fully automatic, sensor-monitored InkLine CAN 3000 ink supply system maintains a constant level of fountain ink, while the fountain roller's separate temperature control system ensures ink viscosity is constant throughout the print run. - An easy-to-use, highly automated chamber doctor blade coating unit with broad remote functionalities. The unit is optionally available with MultiLoader, a revolver cassette anilox roller storage. - Preset Plus Delivery, with aerodynamically designed grippers and perfectly adopted venture air sheet guide plates, stabilizes even the thinnest substrates at maximum production speeds. Fully remote controllable sheet breaks and high frequency joggers secure perfectly aligned delivery piles that are ready for subsequent finishing processes. - New DryStar 3000 dryers are perfectly adjusted to the air-guided sheet travel and are 30 percent more powerful to secure proper drying -- even at maximum press speeds. Additional automation features for Packaging printers include: - Heidelberg Logistics, which consists of fully automatic pile changing, automatic material conveying and pile buffering. This is critical for securing a constant maximum production speed with thicker board substrates. - The Speedmaster XL 105's 29.53 x 41.34" format allows for one or even more rows of ups per sheet ñ a key advantage for boosting the net output of packaging and label printers. The XL 105 also permits extensive workflow integration on the basis of open, future-proof standards through the Prinect CP2000 Center. A long-time Heidelberg customer, Moquin takes advantage of Heidelberg's systemservice 36plus package on both of its Speedmaster XL 105 presses to maintain high production output and avoid unplanned press downtime. systemservice 36plus is "a wonderful program that takes a lot of the worry off my shoulders," Moquin says. Moquin Press also operates a Heidelberg 29" Speedmaster CD 74 6-color press with coater and a Heidelberg GTO 4-color press, as well as 36" and 45" POLAR cutters and a 20x26" Stahlfolder. Founded in 1985, the company employs 85 workers and expects to reach $14 million in sales this year.
