Since the Singapore branch of Koenig & Bauer's Malaysian agency, KBA Asia Pacific, sprang into action four years ago, general manager Stefan Segger and his dedicated team have grown market share at a cracking pace. In that short time they have installed no less than 30 small- and medium-format KBA sheetfed presses, with the Rapida 74 and Rapida 105 universal topping the list but a 74 Karat digital offset press also included in the ranks. Initially, customer preference was for standard configurations with four or five colours, but this has given way to long perfectors and inline coaters. The Rapidas' flexibility, superior print quality and short makereadies have made them popular among commercial and packaging printers alike, attracting a slew of new users in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines. Some customers are already busy expanding their KBA fleet: Malaysian enterprise SSP Industries in Kluang, for example, now has a total of seven KBA Rapida 105 universal presses. To keep pace with the rapid increase in installations, the sales and service team in Singapore has swelled from three to ten in just three years, with two more service technicians due to join by the end of the year. In September the company moved to new offices in the German Centre for Industry and Commerce at Singapore's International Business Park, a convenient location for the many customers with production plants in the Jurong industrial sector. Far from resting on their laurels, Stefan Segger and his team at KBA Asia Pacific Singapore are aiming to drive up sales of the Rapida 105 universal, launch KBA's new 18,000sph Rapida 105 on the regional market and beat the drum for inline coating.
