H.R. Margolis and Becker & Company Merge, New Name is MargolisBecker

Wednesday, October 18, 2006

Press release from the issuing company

Oct 18, 2006 -- H.R. Margolis Company of Philadelphia, and Becker & Company, P.C., based in the Washington, DC area, announce their merger as MargolisBecker. The two companies are the leading CPA firms providing financial and management services to the graphic communications industry. MargolisBecker will maintain its current operations in the Washington, DC and Philadelphia areas. Leadership of the new company will be shared by Bart Krupnick and Joe Becker in the Washington, DC office, and Stuart Margolis in the Philadelphia office. Margolis is the son of the late Harris Margolis, founder of H.R. Margolis Company. Krupnick is a long-time partner in Becker & Company with Joe and Christine Becker. Though previous competitors in the marketplace, Bart Krupnick and Stuart Margolis have been friends since their childhood days in Philadelphia. Their lifelong friendship forms a solid basis for this merger. “Maybe it’s fate, but we’ve been friends since we were seven years old,” remarks Margolis, “and it’s so unique that each of us became CPAs in companies that totally focused on the graphic arts industry. Bart and I share the same values and beliefs when it comes to business, so it makes this merger an easy choice. I have enormous respect for what he and the Beckers have done with their company, and I expect MargolisBecker to be a great combination of personalities, talents and skills.” MargolisBecker provides many more services than the typical Certified Public Accounting Firm. “With the merger, MargolisBecker will be able to offer printing and graphic arts companies the most comprehensive range of financial management and consulting services available, from meeting a company’s most fundamental needs to helping owners develop and implement strategic plans designed to move their companies in the direction they want to go,” says Krupnick. “We will continue to offer everything from strategic planning through working with our clients on business succession and exit strategies,” adds Joe Becker. Listening to and partnering with business owners to implement operational and financial strategies will remain a cornerstone of the company’s business philosophy. It is this unique combination of personalized service and graphic arts expertise that has lead both companies to be recognized as “the industry’s accountant.” The two merging companies share an impressive list of professional credentials. Both H.R. Margolis and Becker & Company have independently served as “on-site” consultants for the Printing Industries of America (PIA/GATF). Becker & Company has additionally provided on-site consulting expertise to the National Association of Printing Leadership (NAPL), and was the 2001 recipient of the NAPL Industry Award for noteworthy contributions to the industry. H.R. Margolis Company is well known for its long-term participation in compiling the annual PIA/GATF Ratio Studies, which provide a comprehensive picture of the financial status of the graphic arts industry in the U.S. and Canada. Joe Becker is a member of NAPL’s Soderstrom Society, and both he and the late Harris (H.R.) Margolis are members of PIA/GATF’s prestigious Ben Franklin Society. Bart Krupnick has served as “tax counsel” to PIA/GATF’s Government Affairs division, and has been a contributing author to NAPL’s Printing Manager publication. Stuart Margolis, Joe Becker, and the late H.R. Margolis have all been recognized for their insightful articles and nationwide educational instruction on timely topics for the printing and graphic industries. Both firms also hold extensive professional memberships in financial organizations such as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, The ESOP Association, and National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts; as well as in the graphic communications associations of PIA, various PIA regional affiliates, and NAPL.
