New Pay for Usage Model Brings Benefits of KODAK Continuous Inkjet Technology to Smaller Printers and Mailers

Press release from the issuing company

CHICAGO, Oct. 15 -- Kodak makes it easier than ever for small print operations to add the proven speed, reliability and print quality of its continuous inkjet printing systems. A new pay for usage business model lowers acquisition costs for the KODAK VERSAMARK DS5340 and KODAK VERSAMARK DS5222 printing systems, opening up new markets for the technology and new opportunities for smaller printers. Launching at Graph Expo, the VERSAMARK DS5340 and VERSAMARK DS5222 inkjet printing systems feature improved speed and enhanced connectivity. Both systems can be configured with a Usage Tracking System (UTS), which offers a reduced capital investment and a usage charge based on the amount of ink consumed. “Our new pay for usage business model opens up the power of KODAK continuous inkjet technology to a whole new audience that’s eager for business growth opportunities,” said Ron Gilboa, Vice President, Marketing, Inkjet Printing Solutions, Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group. “The VERSAMARK DS5340 and DS5222 printing systems give our customers easy access to proven high volume inkjet solutions that produce high value jobs more efficiently.” The new KODAK VERSAMARK DS5340 printing system offers a print width of 1.07 inches (2.71 cm) at up to 240 dpi resolution. It provides high speed data throughput of up to 500 characters at 1000 fpm. The DS5222 is a 2.13 inch wide (5.41 cm) digital printing system. Both systems now offer universal Ethernet connectivity at distances up to 100 feet from the printer, making for easier interfacing with third party equipment and the capability to drive four printers with a single controller. Previous systems could control three printers. The VERSAMARK DS5340 and DS5222 printing systems meet a wide range of variable data imaging application needs, including business forms, tag and label, direct mail, booklets and billing statements. Ideal for direct mail, barcoding, numbering, personalization and spot color, the VERSAMARK DS5340 and DS5222 printing systems are modular, making it easy to merge with web presses, mailbases, collators, inserters, folders and a variety of other inline and offline equipment. “The VERSAMARK DS5222 printing system offers easy job setup and is more economical to run than our cartridge based systems,” said Connie Burns, Data Services Manager at United Mail LLC, in Cincinnati, Ohio. “Our operators love that they can turn up the speed to get higher output on the VERSAMARK equipment.” Visitors to booth 400 at Graph Expo will see Kodak demonstrate how a fictitious retail company addresses customer retention issues, pricing pressures, frequent product introductions and localization challenges through a print based communications campaign driven by KODAK solutions. KODAK products are backed by KODAK Service and Support, Kodak’s worldwide service organization. Named Best Support Organization at the 2006 International Business Awards, KODAK Service and Support includes more than 3,000 professionals in 120 countries.
