WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis., October 3, 2006 - Stora Enso today announced the launch of ArborWeb and ArborWeb Plus environmentally friendly coated freesheet web papers. ArborWeb and ArborWeb Plus are the two heavyweight products in a new Arbor grade design intended to boost environmentally responsible paper choices for commercial web printing. All Arbor products contain 30% postconsumer recycled content (PRC) and are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified. Designed to optimize forest conservation without sacrificing print production values, the Arbor formulation is also available in three lighter-weight publication grade levels to match customer interests in choice, performance and environmental responsibility. "Selecting an ArborWeb product enables our customers to continue to enjoy the very best print quality, while also affirming their support for environmentally friendly solutions," said Anthony McDowell, vice president, branding and market communications for Stora Enso in North America. "The addition of ArborWeb and the Arbor grade design in selected publication grade levels offers a range of choices from lightweight uncoated mechanical to high-end woodfree coated grades. This new grade formulation is the result of a dedicated product development effort and offers the ideal combination of postconsumer recycled content, fiber from controlled sources, and performance." The Arbor grade design is only available with specific grades manufactured at Stora Enso mills in the United States. Other products available with Arbor specifications (30% PRC, FSC certification) are: MagniPress Arbor, ConsoPress Arbor, and PolarisPress Arbor. Brightness levels from 70 to 91 and gloss ranges from 18 to 72 allow the selection of the right product for the appropriate application. Basis weights range from 32 lb. text to 100 lb. cover in offset and gravure options. ArborWeb and ArborWeb Plus are part of a comprehensive line of Stora Enso coated freesheet web papers. FSC Certification FSC certification requires that a paper product can be traced from supplier to supplier back to an FSC-certified forest through a process called chain-of-custody certification. Chain of custody begins with the harvesting of the tree in the forest, and it includes processing, production and distribution through the mill and right up to when the product reaches the end user's office or home. Stora Enso supports mutual recognition of all credible forest certification systems. The company holds an FSC chain-of-custody certificate in North America (SW-COC-1720) which demonstrates that a system is in place to track FSC-certified fiber from the stump to the mill gate. Six Stora Enso paper mills then have their own FSC chain-of-custody certification (SW-COC-1930), signifying that they have in place a tracking system to control and verify certain levels of FSC-certified fiber to meet labeling requirements. This also means that the mill obtains a required level of FSC-certified fiber from FSC- certified sources, while the remaining fiber is either postconsumer material or fiber deemed controlled based on FSC requirements. Recycled Fiber All of the recycled fiber used in Stora Enso's products in North America is produced at the company's recycled pulp mill in Duluth, Minnesota. The mill has the capacity to produce about 100,000 tons of de-inked pulp per year from postconsumer recovered paper. The pulp is bleached using process chlorine-free technology.
