GAA to Host Conference on Gravure for Printable Electronics
Thursday, September 28, 2006
Rochester, NY, September 28, 2006 -- The Gravure Association of America (GAA) will present its inaugural Intelligent Printing and Packaging conference next week (October 3-5) at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill, NJ. The event will focus on the applications of gravure in printable electronics. GAA says that while there are a growing number of conferences addressing rapidly emerging markets and investment opportunities in printed electronics, Intelligent Printing and Packaging is the only conference focusing on the unique capabilities of gravure printing processes. Gravure is uniquely suited to addressing large-scale market opportunities in printable electronics such as flexible photovoltaics, chipless RFID, and solid state lighting. According to GAA, the consulting firm Nanomarkets expects the printable electronics industry to reach $12.1 billion by 2011. The research firm IDTechEx projects that the market for organic and printable electronics will reach $300 billion by 2025—larger than the size of the silicon semiconductor industry today. Conference topics include: • How will printed electronics change your world? • Who's investing in printed electronics...and why? • Mandates, markets, applications, and demand drivers • Capital equipment and process control issues • Chipless RFID and printable electronics, and FABS of the future • Substrate, ink, and enabling technology trends • R&D roadmaps, training, education, and workforce development Among the speakers are Dan Gamota, head of Motorola's printed electronics group, presenting highlights of the soon to be released technology roadmap for printed electronics developed under his leadership by the electronics industry association iNEMI; and Dalen Keys, manager of DuPont's printed electronics business, presenting DuPont's vision of the market opportunities for printed electronics. There will also be panel discussions with representatives from organizations including Konarka, IDTechEx, Universal Display, Osram-Sylvania, BASF, Future Business, Quad Graphics, International Paper, UPM, Flint Ink, Sun Chemical, Paralec, and Clemson University. Author and visionary Bruce Sterling will present "Printing With Greater Intelligence," which GAA describes as “a futurist extravaganza about all things emergent, distributed, findable, augmented and sustainable.” For a conference brochure and to register online, visit GAA's Web site; or call GAA at (585) 436-2150.
