HP Helps Customers Make it Big in America with Expanded Printer Portfolio

Press release from the issuing company

LAS VEGAS, Nevada, September 26, 2006 – HP today announced that it is demonstrating for the first time in North America its latest digital solutions for the wide- and super-wide-format printing industries at the 2006 Specialty Printing & Imaging Technology Expo (SGIA). The latest advancements to the industry’s only postcard-to-billboard graphic arts portfolio include the HP Scitex TJ8500 industrial wide format printer, new HP Scitex printhead technology, the HP Designjet 10000s and the HP Designjet Z Photo Printer Series. HP’s product showcase, demonstrated live in booth #3812 and #3830, features these products and many more value add solutions for indoor and outdoor applications. All are designed to help commercial and screen printers evolve their business strategies to meet emerging trends and industry demands while expanding opportunities for greater marketing creativity. “As part of our overall imaging and printing growth strategy, the new products we are showing at SGIA further amplify HP’s position as the one-stop-shop for all large format printing solutions,” said Stephen Nigro, senior vice president and general manager, Graphics and Imaging Business, HP. “With our expanded portfolio, we can meet the diverse needs of our customers - whether its UV-curable printing for outdoor signage, extremely high quality printing with Vivera pigment inks for graphic design and other creative applications, or highly accurate proofing devices to ensure color consistency and quality.” HP Scitex: Unbeatable combination of durability and productivity Offering more flexibility and durability than ever before, HP Scitex is employing UV-curable inks in its latest printer. The new HP Scitex TJ8500 combines key features of the HP Scitex TJ8300 industrial wide-format digital printer with HP Scitex UV850 Supreme UV-curable inks to create high quality images that last up to two years outdoors. Supporting a wide range of media, including untreated materials such as offset and screen papers, and uncoated synthetic materials like Tyvek Kovek and Yupo, the HP Scitex TJ8500 offers an unbeatable combination of high throughput with cost-effective production. One of the fastest printers of its kind on the market, the HP Scitex TJ8500 offers three output speeds, depending on the output quality and application required. In Production Mode it is capable of printing up to 400sqm/hr (4,305sqft/hr) at 336dpi, enabling users to print 140 1.5x1.8m (4.9X5.9ft) posters per hour. In Quality Mode, the output is 200sqm/hr (2,153sqft/hr) at 448dpi and in High Quality Mode the printer can reach speeds of 100sqm/hr (1075sqft/hr) at apparent 600dpi. Keith Ferrel, Director of Sales at Cactus Imaging and one of the first print service providers to acquire the new HP Scitex solution said, “The HP Scitex TJ8500 was attractive to us because of its exceptional speed and quality, stable print platform and utilization of UV inks, which will allow us to print on a variety of untreated and uncoated synthetic materials like Tyvek Kovek and Yupo.” Developed for future generation HP Scitex UV printers to increase productivity, quality and reliability, HP is introducing new X2 Printhead technology. X2 brings together proven silicon-based MEMS (MicroElectroMechanicalSystems) technology, utilized in semiconductor manufacturing, and innovative piezoelectric technology from HP Scitex to create a system that delivers high ink flows for high-speed, high quality printing. The new printhead technology will be featured in two future wide-format printers, the HP Scitex XL2200 and HP Scitex FB6500, which will be available in the first half of 2007. HP is also showcasing two high-value enhancements to improve the overall printing experience on existing HP Scitex equipment: the new HP Scitex Color Workflow Interactive Navigator (WIN) and an optional Dye Sublimation add-on feature for the HP Scitex XL1500 enabling high quality printing of textile signage applications. New HP Designjet Large Format Printers, New Innovative Features The first HP Designjet to exceed 100 inches, the new HP Designjet 10000s is capable of producing high-quality signage up to 104 inches wide and printing 176sqft/hr. The super-wide format printer produces signs, banners, billboards, wall murals, and window and vehicle graphics with striking, vivid colors in resolutions up to 720 x 720 dpi, enabling print service providers (PSPs), sign shops and screen printers to boost their business. This latest addition to the HP Designjet low solvent line allows users to broaden the span of applications they produce and provide more options to customers. A sophisticated media handling system enables dual-sided, dual-roll, and unlined mesh printing. These features combined with six heavy-duty piezo printheads make a highly productive and versatile super-wide format solution that can handle economical uncoated media for lower running costs and greater return-on-investment (ROI). “With the HP Designjet 10000s printer, we can satisfy a greater range of customer demands for outdoor and indoor durable signage and, for the first time, we can compete with screen printers both on price and durability,” said Steve Farley, General Manager of Electronic Printing Services Limited. “Not having to laminate means big savings and the 104-inch superwide output hugely extends our market reach. Plus, with built-in features such as double-sided printing, dual roll support and printing on mesh without backing, we maximize our competitiveness, and our returns.” HP is also showcasing its new HP Designjet Z2100 8-ink and Designjet Z3100 12-ink Photo Printers, which offer an automated, intuitive approach to large-format high quality graphic reproduction. Both employ the industry’s first built-in spectrophotometer, HP Vivera pigment inks and an intelligent ink delivery system for superior image quality, durability and permanence with highly predictable color accuracy – print after print. To top if off, an unparalleled 200 years lightfastness1 is achieved on a wide variety of HP media. At SGIA, HP will be hosting demonstrations of the HP Scitex and HP Designjet product portfolio throughout the duration of the conference at HP booth #3830. In addition, HP will be hosting product demonstrations of the HP Indigo s2000 press for industrial applications throughout the conference at HP booth #3812.
