ORIS Color Tuner ranks highest in annual TAGA Italia proofing evaluation

Press release from the issuing company

Hainburg, Germany (September 18, 2006) - Following its successful showing at the IPA Proofing RoundUP in Chicago, ORIS Color Tuner was given superior marks in a proofing evaluation sponsored by TAGA Italia, held in Verona. Driving the popular Epson Stylus Pro 4800 printer, ORIS returned the highest average score (2.96 out of a possible 4.00) of three visual elements and two measurement tests. In addition, out of all the systems tested, ORIS was in the top tier for Pantone reproduction. The ORIS system tested was set up and run by CGS' Italian reseller, JOIN (www.join-italia.com), based in Firenze. Visual and measurement evaluations were performed by a neutral panel of industry experts. Ease of use and cost-per-proof affordability (categories in which ORIS excels) were not evaluated. Average scores were based on rankings of three visual criteria (tonal reproduction, chromatic reproduction and physical characteristics) and two measurement criteria (tonal and chromatic reproduction). "We are pleased, naturally, but not at all surprised at the results," said CGS President Andreas Kämmerer. "ORIS Color Tuner has been consistently ranked as the top contract proofing system in side-by-side comparisons. What is also receiving attention is the fact that ORIS is not solely an inkjet proofing RIP; it is a modular system for evaluating and controlling color throughout the print enterprise." Kämmerer also pointed out that one proofing vendor had made "apples-and-oranges" claims regarding the TAGA event, combining the visual and measurement results (each using a scale of 0-4.0) with the number of successful Pantone colors reproduced (a scale of 0-13). "It is easy to claim first or second position using calculations based on false assumptions, but most people are smart enough to recognize this, and to make a reasonable conclusion," Kämmerer said.
