Presstek Anthem Pro Chemistry-Free Plate Wins Positive Customer Response

Press release from the issuing company

HUDSON, N.H., Sept. 12 -- Presstek, Inc., a leading manufacturer and marketer of environmentally responsible digital offset printing solutions for the graphic arts markets, reports that Anthem Pro, the most recent addition to Presstek's portfolio of chemistry-free CTP plates is receiving very positive customer reception. Customer feedback indicates that Anthem Pro is delivering the chemistry-free benefits that printers are looking for as they pursue improvements in productivity and profitability. "A truly chemistry-free plate streamlines workflow, eliminates variation in process control, saves time and material costs, and protects our environment," states John O'Rourke, Presstek's CTP systems marketing director. "Our customers are realizing those chemistry-free benefits with the Presstek Anthem Pro plate. They are getting great on-press performance and improving quality while eliminating the complications and costs of chemistry with this truly chemistry-free plate." Anthem Pro is a new generation chemistry-free thermally imaged digital plate that combines the significant advantages of chemistry-free operation and proven capabilities of a grained anodized surface. There is no need for the added steps of gumming, baking or chemical processing of the plate. Anthem Pro requires only a simple water rinse after imaging to prepare the plate for printing. In combination with Presstek's Dimension series of thermal platesetters, Anthem Pro delivers a high performance print solution with a streamlined workflow and high quality printed results, supporting run lengths up to 100,000 impressions. "We are very pleased with the results of the Anthem Pro plate," says John Chin of Telegraphix Inc. in New York. "The press performance is excellent and we are getting great print results with this grained plate. Best of all, we are achieving significant savings in our platemaking operation by eliminating the plate developing chemistry, as well as the costs associated with its storage and disposal. The chemistry-free process streamlined our workflow and delivered great results. We are experiencing fast roll-up and great color stability throughout the press run." Christopher Edwards from Infinity Press says, "When I was making the decision to move from film-based platemaking to CTP, the lure of running without chemistry was very compelling to me. Since we made the switch, I have noticed a drop-off in paper consumption during makeready, and without all of the processors, my shop is a nicer environment for my employees. We are using Anthem Pro plates on both our 20" and 40" presses and we like the idea that basically the only chemicals we have in the shop anymore are those contained in inkjet ink." The Anthem Pro plate was developed by Presstek based on customer input, and optimizes the advantages and proven capabilities of a grained anodized surface in a truly chemistry-free CTP plate. The plates are daylight safe which ensures quality control in a wide range of operating environments. And, after a simple water rinse the plate displays a high contrast image that can be examined and measured -- providing significant cost savings by correcting an error before it gets on the press. Once on press the plate rolls up quickly and easily maintains consistency. "Anthem Pro provides chemistry-free operation with great benefits and absolutely no trade-offs," says O'Rourke. The benefits of eliminating chemistry include not only the elimination of chemistry-related costs, but also acquisition, storage, disposal, safety and other costs; space and energy consumption; and cycle time and labor costs. "We were initially attracted to the Dimension Platesetter with chemistry-free Anthem plates because we wanted to get away from chemistry in platemaking and other parts of our operation for the benefit of both the environment and our employees," says Jared Heller of The Stelter Company. "We are getting even better results now that we have moved to the Anthem Pro plates, benefiting from faster run-ups and less paper wastage in makeready. Having completely eliminated chemical plate processing and all associated materials and steps from my business, I cannot imagine going back to traditional platemaking."
