COPAPHARM EUROPE Defines Future of Secure Pre-Press Workflow with Artwork Systems' PA:CT Technology

Press release from the issuing company

September 8, 2006 – Ghent, BELGIUM – Artwork Systems Group N.V., a world leader in professional pre-press software, is pleased to announce that COPAPHARM EUROPE SCRL, among the most respected and renowned supply alliances to the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries; has adopted Artwork Systems’ PA:CT (Packaging:Certified Technology). PA:CT brings secure, trackable PDF processing to COPAPHARM EUROPE’s printed packaging operations. COPAPHARM EUROPE, formed in 1997, is an alliance comprising 18 plants in 9 countries, with a total capacity of 6.5 billion units. Members include August Faller KG in Germany; Icesa, Pans and Cartonplex in Spain; Packart and Rotanotice in France; Palladio/Zannini in Italy; Storey Evans in the UK, and Goldprint in Belgium. Guido Van der Schueren, Chairman of the Board, Artwork Systems, comments, "We are very honored to have been selected by COPAPHARM EUROPE as the technology foundation for its newly-defined future of secure pre-press workflows. Accuracy and continuity are a critical priority for COPAPHARM EUROPE and the companies it serves. Security and traceability of data transfer prior to print is vitally important in the worldwide pharmaceutical industry. Errors can potentially lead to life-critical misinformation. PA:CT fulfills the critical function of achieving the highest levels of accuracy in prepress.” COPHAPHARM EUROPE companies have been installing PA:CT for validation periods during the last 18 months. Across the group, most member companies have implemented or are implementing the system to ensure a more optimised and secure workflow. In the words of COPAPHARM’s Thomas Wahl, System Administrator and Pre-Press Specialist at August Faller KG in Germany: “With Artwork Systems’ sophisticated technology, the suppliers and brand owners can now optimise and secure the whole pre-press process. PA:CT has broken down the boundaries between design and production, and the workflow can be controlled and is consistent. PA:CT provides complete traceability through the whole process from design to print including prepress. (It is) a key point in a complex pharmaceutical workflow.” PA:CT (Packaging:Certified Technology) Artwork Systems introduced PA:CT (Packaging:Certified Technology) during 2005, to great acclaim. This technology, based on the Certified PDF technology of Enfocus, encapsulates PDF in a secure data layer that provides packaging professionals with instant access to clear, straightforward information about the file and its history. In a PA:CT environment, the Certified PDF label not only guarantees quality but provides ArtPro, Nexus, and Odystar users with a full edit and history trail of their PDF documents. This means that the traceability of the incoming PDF—even though the file might have undergone substantial editing—will never be broken. Artwork Systems says that regardless of who has made what changes on any particular day, PA:CT allows tracking at any point in the production cycle from the actual creation of the job. This kind of technology introduces huge benefits to everyone in the production chain, resulting in Certified PDF being adopted by the industry very quickly. With faster throughput, more direct contact between individuals, lower costs, and fewer errors; everyone wins.
