Xeikon's digital color label production technology celebrates its 10-year anniversary at Labelexpo Americas

Press release from the issuing company

Itasca, IL, September 06, 2006 – Punch Graphix’s Xeikon brand will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of its digital color label production technology at the upcoming Labelexpo show in Chicago from September 11 – 14. The Xeikon booth (Hall A, Booth 709) will feature the Xeikon 330, Xeikon’s fourth generation digital color press, running inline with the Xeikon LabelSprint digital finishing system to produce fully finished, high quality labels. With a top speed of 48 ft/minute and a web width of 13 inches, the Xeikon 330 is the most productive 5-color digital label press available in the market. The Xeikon 330 utilizes dry toner technology, which enables it to print on conventional materials. This eliminates the need for any special pre-coating or pre-treatment, thereby reducing the total cost of printing. Its full rotary printing process allows label printers to print small to oversized labels (0.04 in. to >20 in.) with a variable repeat length consistently. In addition, the Xeikon 330 easily handles barcode printing and sequential numbering, making it a perfect fit for Variable Data Printing (VDP) applications. The Xeikon LabelSprint digital finishing system offers key advantages by integrating the most advanced converting and finishing technologies available. Among other things, it provides varnishing, lamination, die cutting, slitting and rewinding capabilities. It is extremely versatile, thanks to a standard platform that can be customized as per the application requirements. Furthermore, this is the first demonstration of the Xeikon LabelSprint digital finishing system equipped with the shaft-less servo technology for optimal efficiency. Xeikon will also exhibit its Digital Front-End, the X-800, during the show to demonstrate its unique functionalities, including step and repeat, color control, inclusion of variable data and generation of sequential numbers as well as barcodes. The X-800 DFE has a truly open and scalable architecture making it an ideal choice for label converters. It has been developed with high productivity in mind and can easily process print jobs incorporating complex graphics with variable data from over 1 million records. During the show, Barry Griffiths, managing director of Borble (www.borble.com), will be present at the Xeikon booth to share his experiences with the Xeikon label technology. Borble - a company based in Rhyl, North Wales - specializes in supplying short to medium run labels to conventional label printers and end-users. They started their business with a Xeikon digital color label press in 2005 and made their entire operation profitable in less than one year. Xeikon has joined forces with Ritrama (www.ritrama.com), a premiere supplier of pressure sensitive film and paper substrates, for the Labelexpo show. All the Xeikon applications will be produced on the high quality Ritrama products, Whiteflex and Clearflex, to further enhance the look and feel of the printed labels. Both these products have the flexibility of Polyethylene and the strength of Polypropylene, an extremely desirable combination for digital label production applications. According to Rob Mayerson, VP Digital Sales, North America, Punch Graphix Americas, “To truly witness high volume digital label printing technology, all show attendees should stop by the Xeikon booth. The Labelexpo show is a perfect opportunity to witness Xeikon’s fully integrated label production solutions in action.”
