Meadwestvaco Unveils The Next Generation Of Tango

Press release from the issuing company

STAMFORD, Conn. (August 28, 2006) – After 18 months of refining, MeadWestvaco has unveiled a new generation of Tango® coated cover papers that are brighter, smoother, more consistent and nearly perfect in their on-press performance. The latest generation of Tango boasts superior runnability, printability and consistency. These characteristics consistently ranked as “critical” or “very important” in interviews MeadWestvaco conducted last year with 150 small-, medium- and large-format commercial printers in 31 states, to determine which performance and aesthetic requirements of coated cover stocks they considered to be most important. Along with enhanced performance, Tango’s brightness has increased to 93 from 88 for both the coated-one-side (C1S) and coated-two-side (C2S) cover stock, while brightness on the uncoated side of Tango cover C1S jumped to 90 from 81. “New Tango is measurably brighter to provide outstanding color reproduction, but our product development efforts also continued to place emphasis on enhancing what printers tell us is most important to them: flawless on-press performance,” says Steve Anderson, director of marketing for commercial printing at MeadWestvaco. The improved performance characteristics of Tango are the result of MeadWestvaco’s commitment to Six Sigma, a disciplined, data-driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects in its paper manufacturing processes. As a result, trouble-free performance reported by commercial printers using Tango in 2005 was nearly perfect at 99.7 percent. “This level of reliability is extremely valuable to printers,” says Anderson. “The feedback we’ve received is that they love the way Tango performs on press.” Printers will also appreciate the enhanced smoothness and ink hold-out that new Tango provides, which will help them satisfy the aesthetic expectations of their most demanding customers. Tango’s smoothness now meets or exceeds that of higher-priced No. 2 coated free sheet (CFS) covers, and surpasses that of all major competitive coated bristols. Tango coated cover stock is ideal for book covers, sports cards, annual reports, high-end automotive and other brochures, calendars, mailers, point of purchase (POP) displays, greeting cards and catalogs. It also delivers exceptional performance in commercial printing applications that require stochastic printing, folding, embossing, die-cutting, foil stamping and film and foil lamination. New Tango is available in C1S (8 – 12 pt., 93 brightness), C2S (8 – 24 pt., 93 brightness) and Blanks (14 – 24 pt., 86 brightness). To receive samples of new Tango, contact your local merchant, call MeadWestvaco at 800.418.0397 or visit www.tangopaper.com.
