Canon U.S.A. Expands Its Color Laser Line-Up

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y.--Aug. 24, 2006-- Canon Rounds Out Its New Color imageRUNNER Line to Deliver Powerful Color Within Reach of Any Sized Business Helping to make color in the office a reality, Canon U.S.A, Inc., the nation's market share brand leader in black-and-white and color laser printer/copier solutions(1), today began shipping the Color imageRUNNER C5180 Series and expanded its line of full-color digital imageRUNNER multifunction solutions with the introduction of the Color imageRUNNER C4580/C4080/C3380/C2880 Series. The Color imageRUNNER C4580/C4080/C3380/C2880 Series joins the Canon Color imageRUNNER C5180 Series, which was introduced earlier this year, in Canon's family of powerful, yet affordable, color devices for large and small office environments. Based on four-drum technology, the Color imageRUNNER C5180/C4580/C4080 Series delivers speeds of up to 51/45/40 pages-per-minute (ppm), based on letter-sized documents, respectively, for black-and-white output and up to 51/40/36 ppm, based on letter-sized documents, respectively, for color output. The Color imageRUNNER C3380/C2880 Series, which brings big features and impressive color to the office in a small footprint, delivers output at speeds of up to 33/28 ppm, respectively, in monochrome and up to 28/26 ppm in brilliant color. Using Canon's next-generation color imagePlatform system architecture, imageCHIP (Concurrent Hyper Intelligent Platform), the new Color imageRUNNER Series brings fast engine and data processing speed and reliable color to office and professional users alike. The robust imageCHIP system architecture, with its dual CPU design and increased memory capacity (up to 1.5GB RAM and 80GB Hard Drive), helps to simultaneously process documents that are scanned, copied or printed quickly and efficiently. "With advanced color document handling and finishing capabilities, this new Color imageRUNNER Series will change the way color is used in the office," said Tod Pike, senior vice president, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc. "The Canon innovation and technology in this new series of MFPs are perfect examples of why Canon has been able to remain an industry leader in digital color imaging, from its first full-color copying machine in the 1980s to today's award-winning imageRUNNER line." The new Color imageRUNNER C5180/C4580/C4080 models come standard with a 100-sheet duplexing automatic document feeder (DADF), which can handle multi-page originals at speeds up to 70 images-per-minute (ipm), while the Color imageRUNNER 3380/2880 models are available with a 50-sheet DADF with scan speeds up to 44 ipm for color and black-and-white, based on letter-sized output. The new models include Color Universal Send for scanning and sending documents directly from the Color imageRUNNER device, and new laser scanner technology to deliver up to 1,200 X 1,200 dots-per-inch (dpi) printing resolution. In addition, several options are available for these devices, including high-capacity finishers and hole punch capabilities, and robust security and device management functionality. These Color imageRUNNER models will be the first series of imageRUNNER models to offer support for Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) protocol, an emerging industry standard for collaborative access and management of documents via Web servers. The new Color imageRUNNER Series, which is available as a "Base" model that can be expanded to fit one's particular printing and scanning needs or an "i" model that is configured with standard print and enhanced send features for general office environments, leverages Canon's proprietary Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform (MEAP(R)), which enables organizations to tailor their system functions to specific industry or business needs with customized applications. The Color imageRUNNER C5180/C4580/C4080 models are available with a choice of print controllers, including an external print server. This print controller configuration flexibility allows the Color imageRUNNER Series to deliver optimized technology for virtually every color requirement and market segment. The UFR II/PCL Printer Kit, for the C5180/C4580/C4080 models, offers Canon proprietary UFR II (Ultra Fast Rendering II), popular PCL and optional PostScript emulation printing, is designed to help make general office environments more productive and efficient. The imagePASS(TM)-H1 for the Color imageRUNNER C5180/C4580/C4080 models and the imagePASS-J1 for the imageRUNNER C3380/C2880 models support genuine Adobe PostScript 3 and PCL and are designed for color intensive multi-user environments that require additional throughput speed and enhanced color and document management tools. When connected to the ColorPASS(R)-GX100, the Color imageRUNNER C5180/C4580/C4080 models will help support the needs of demanding color users and production environments. The Color imageRUNNER "i" models come standard with UFR II/PCL printing capability. In addition to color copying and printing, the new Color imageRUNNER Series can be used as a powerful central communications hub for sharing and managing information in the office. With powerful Color Universal Send capabilities standard, the Canon Color imageRUNNER Series enables users to distribute scanned data to a variety of destinations including document management systems, such as Canon imageWARE(TM) Document Manager, in one simple step. The Color imageRUNNER Series is also available with enhanced Universal Send features, which includes functionality like Trace & Smooth for increasing the quality of scanned text images in compressed PDFs and Digital Signatures for adding a digital signature to a PDF. The new Color imageRUNNER Series delivers a host of device management and security features designed to help ease administrative burdens, control and monitor device usage, and help protect vital corporate information. Capabilities include Department ID for up to 1,000 departments, Single Sign On (SSO) and Simple Device Log-in (SDL) authentication, the Canon imageRUNNER Security Kit, Secure Watermark capability, Encrypted Secured Print, Canon's Remote UI and Canon's imageWARE Enterprise Management Console.
