Press release from the issuing company

August 14, 2006 (Sewickley, PA) – Research performed by the Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF) shows that makeready in the bindery can be significantly improved by using JDF-enabled workflows. The findings include: - 75% faster makeready on stitchers - 90% faster makeready on cutters George Ryan, PIA/GATF Chief Operating Officer, says “the promise of this technology to assist printers to greater productivity will enable those using JDF to be more competitive and more profitable.” Leading the research efforts on JDF is Dr. Mark Bohan, PIA/GATF’s director of research and integrated technology. Dr. Bohan will also lead a two-day workshop in September that offers the first proven information on precisely what needs to be done to take advantage of JDF. Attendees will get a first-hand look at the model implementation within PIA/GATF’s production area and see a sample job produced on the first functioning JDF workflow in North America. The session will explore all relevant issues, including the cost, integration, and availability of JDF-enabled equipment, plus where the opportunities are and the pitfalls to avoid. For more information on PIA/GATF’s JDF research, contact Dr. Mark Bohan at [email protected].
