New York (July 26, 2006) – Responding to increased customer interest in virtual proofing, CGS Publishing Technologies International will host the first annual ORIS Color Communication Conference on August 16 in New York. To be held at the prestigious Yale Club, the event, co-sponsored by Eizo, will feature the latest soft proofing technology for publishing and advertising workflows. “Soft or virtual proofing is generating a tremendous amount of interest in the publishing and ad production circles,” said CGS’ representative David Palmieri. “It has great potential for time savings in color-critical environments. Unfortunately, it has also created a lot of confusion. This conference will clear up many misconceptions, and offer a straightforward solution to the problems many color professionals face.” ORIS has the potential to cut production timelines by 1-3 days for print publications. The conference is designed for high-level color professionals and decision makers. The information sessions will be followed by hands-on demonstrations of ORIS Soft Proof and the more recent ORIS Color Server, a web-based environment for remote control of multiple color workflows. Publishers at Ipex 2006 noted that Color Server’s remote proofing approach (for hard copy as well as soft proofing) had the potential to cut production timelines by 1-3 days for print publications. ORIS Soft Proof is the only virtual proofing system not following the “per-click” or “per-view” financial model, which has raised questions among major publishers and printers. Users may view an unlimited number of ORIS’ virtual proofs (which are color-managed PDF/X-3 files) on calibrated displays such as the Eizo CG-series. The free ORIS Acrobat plugin allows the user to verify the proof file’s color status, as well as the calibration state of the monitor and the monitor gamut’s ability to match SWOP or a similar color space. Hard copy proofing is integrated into the system, via ORIS Color Tuner, so the user may create contract-quality output at any time.
