PDF Trapping upgrade to Lucid's I-Trap available

Friday, July 14, 2006

Press release from the issuing company

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., July 13, 2006 – Lucid Dream Software, Inc., a leading provider of trapping solutions, is upgrading their customers to full PDF Trapping capabilities for FREE. I-PDF is a new plugin for I-Trap that adds a special trapping layer to existing PDF files! Customers using the current version 3 of I-Trap can download the new plugin and immediately upgrade to a PDF Trapping workflow. David Lewis, President of Lucid Dream Software comments: “We want to assure our many hundreds of users that I-Trap is clearly the better solution for both application based workflows and now for PDF workflows as well! I-Trap is already the most cost effective trapping product on the market, and by making this a standard feature – I-Trap is clearly the only choice to make!” I-PDF works by adding trapping information back to the ORIGINAL PDF file in a new “Trapping Layer”. This retains ALL of the characteristics of the original file- such as fonts and meta-data – and just adds this separate traps layer. I-PDF can be configured in both automatic trapping and interactive trapping workflows. I-PDF can be configured together with the I-JPEG plugin to create both trapped PDF files and small email-able soft proof files – at the same time. I-PDF offers many benefits; Step and Repeat: Common in labels and packaging, save time by trapping one copy and then reuse the trapped file over and over again. (Also I-Trap is an excellent choice for trapping those complex jobs using partial transparency or drop shadows!) Pre-Imposition Trapping: Except for some high-end systems, there are very few options for being able to trap individual pages and then impose them. With I-PDF you can apply traps to the individual pages in PDF form, as either single or multi-page PDF files. These “Trapped” PDF files can be used with either standalone imposition programs or in-rip imposition. Easy Viewing: Of course we highly recommend the use of the I-Trap Viewer because of all the powerful features it brings to controlling trap settings. However I-Trap can easily be run in Automatic In-Rip Trapping Mode to automatically trap and output the trapped PDF files. These files can then be viewed in Acrobat to see the trapping – switching the trap layer on and off even makes the traps flash! Archiving: I-Trap with I-PDF produces trapped PDF files that are perfect for archiving. These files can be pulled and re-run with trapping already applied – OR – if press conditions have changed then the trapping layer can be turned OFF and you are back to the original un-trapped file. Preflighting: The original PDF will go through the ripping process that can be very helpful in determining problems with the jobs. But please note – I-PDF does NOT make a raster PDF, it adds traps to the original PDF to retain all the original raster and vector info. Efficiency: There are many gains that can be achieved with this workflow. First it is now possible to apply traps to the jobs much earlier in the process. Instead of waiting until plate making time to apply traps and deal with any trapping issues, now trapping can be done as part of preflighting. Second sending pre-trapped imposition jobs to the platesetting process will result in much faster processing to get your jobs on press quickly and correctly! Also proofing and revision cycles benefit from having pre-trapped jobs. I-Trap with I-PDF converts your Harlequin Rip from just a ripping station to a real ROOM workflow! Pricing for I-Trap version 3 is $2250 for I-Trap Auto and $4695 for I-Trap full server, making it one of the most affordable trapping products on the market today!
