Curtis Packaging Grows Its Capabilities With New Finishing Technology

Press release from the issuing company

Sandy Hook, CT — July 5, 2006 — One of the nation’s leading packaging design and print providers is expanding its capabilities. In a major renovation of its production facility here, Curtis Packaging has added several new finishing systems and a quality lab to strengthen its already extensive line-up of technology and services. Curtis’ latest investment in advanced finishing systems is led by an SBL – 1300SEF Foil Stamper. The system can apply foil effects to sheets as large at 51” X 37” at the rate of up to 6,000 impressions per hour. The resulting cost efficiency will make more packaging products candidates for the brilliance of hot foil stamping. Two new Omega Folder/Gluers were installed at Curtis, in the spring of 2006. The Omega 110 is designed for high-speed package production, capable of manufacturing all types of styles, including 4 and 6 corner cartons. The Omega 80 is a mid-range machine that also can produce at very high speeds. Both systems are fully computerized to speed makeready and production while ensuring high quality. Curtis’ windowing capabilities are also growing stronger with the arrival of a new Kohmann 950 Window Machine. The 37” system can run two streams, two up, for improved cost efficiency and responsiveness. Also set for installation is a new Kohmann Panoramic Window Attachment that will be fitted to Curtis’ Kohmann 1100 Window Machine. The device allows for the registered placement of Panoramic or “Hard Windows,” giving Curtis customers another opportunity to make their packaging more distinctive. “Finishing is where the printed sheet becomes a package,” says John Giusto, Vice President of Manufacturing at Curtis. “It’s also where you can add extra shelf appeal to the project with techniques like foiling and windowing. That’s why we continually update our finishing workflow.” Another element of the facilities upgrade at Curtis is the installation of a Quality Assurance Lab, located in the heart of the company’s production stream. Equipped with the latest test equipment and digitally driven measuring devices, the lab lets Curtis monitor quality continually through visual inspection, statistical process control and internal auditing. “The more we advance our technology, the more we can do for our customers,” says Don Droppo Jr., Vice President of Marketing. “That’s why we’re relentless in continually improving our capabilities. Contributing to our clients’ success is our ultimate goal.”
