Business Cards Tomorrow Installs Second Presstek DI Press

Press release from the issuing company

Hudson, NH – June 28, 2006 – Presstek, Inc., a leading manufacturer and marketer of high-tech digital imaging solutions for the graphic communications industry, today announced that Business Cards Tomorrow (BCT) has installed two Presstek Direct Imaging (DI) presses in its Tempe, Arizona and Denver, Colorado sites to support increased demand for short run, high quality, fast turnaround printing of business cards, brochures and other materials. “We took delivery of our first DirectPress 5634DI press in March of this year,” said Mark Ell, Chief Financial Officer and Owner, BCT Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico. “We were so excited about the results it delivered for our business that after three weeks, we placed an order for a second unit which is currently being installed in our Denver, Colorado operation.” The DI press is a highly automated offset press that combines imaging, media and press technology in a unified system where all four printing plates are imaged simultaneously on-press in precise register. In its fourth generation, today’s DI presses provide automated support for 300 lpi printing and stochastic screening. In addition, the DI press automatically adjusts the amount of ink according to the image on each plate. All of this results in very high-quality output and a makeready time significantly faster than any other offset printing process. “We are delighted to be partnering with BCT Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico as they shift their manufacturing model to better address their customers’ needs,” said Peter Bouchard, Presstek’s Marketing Vice President. This is just one example of how the more efficient manufacturing process and high output quality of today’s DI presses is changing the very nature of offset printing in a market that is increasingly demanding shorter runs, faster turnaround times and no compromise in quality.” Since 1981, Business Cards Tomorrow has provided wholesale printing services to the Phoenix metropolitan area. Under the leadership of founding owners Jim and Rose Matchinsky, BCT Arizona began its tradition of service to its customers and innovation in the industry. The family-owned business has expanded its BCT franchise operation to encompass manufacturing plants in Colorado and New Mexico. The company produces a wide range of printed materials for the trade, including business cards and stationery, brochures, notepads, labels and rubber stamps, and more. According to Ell, “Although we had been producing four-color offset printing for years, our conventional presses were no longer able to competitively deliver the type of printed product our customers were demanding. By replacing our conventional press with the DirectPress 5634DI, we have cut makeready time in half—from 20 minutes to 10 minutes—decreasing our costs and increasing our capacity. We do a significant number of runs of 1,000, but with the DI press, we can economically produce less than 500. And with business cards, we can combine up to 24 orders on a single sheet, further increasing our efficiencies.” Ell points out that the DirectPress 5634DI’s chemistry-free operation and minimal paper waste were also important purchase considerations for BCT. He adds, “The quality of the print job itself is amazing. Literally, from the first good sheet after setup to the very end of the run, whether it is 1,000 or 50,000, the quality is so consistent that we rarely need to intervene during the run. That is what people are looking for. First, they want the quality; and second, they want to know when the job will be complete. Our DI presses have positioned us well to meet those requirements and continue to grow our business.”
