Kodak Teams with Press Manufacturer to Demonstrate Ease and Speed of Packaging Prepress Solutions

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 20 -- Kodak will partner with press manufacturer Drent Goebel to show package printers the benefits of digital prepress, platemaking and printing at a customer event June 22–27. Drent Goebel will host the five day event at its facility outside Montreal, Quebec. Kodak will bring to Montreal a full suite of prepress solutions for package printers, including the KODAK PRINERGY POWERPACK workflow system, STACCATO screening software, SPOTLESS printing solution, the KODAK TRENDSETTER 800 II QUANTUM platesetter and KODAK SWORD Excel thermal printing plates. Several live demonstrations and workshops will be held each day throughout the event. “The Drent Goebel Demonstration Days are an excellent opportunity for Kodak to show its prepress solutions in action to package printers,” said Vic Stalam, General Manager, Packaging, Kodak. “Kodak representatives will demonstrate the production process from receipt of the design files through to plate production for a Drent Goebel press. Attendees will witness firsthand how the speed, ease of use and color quality of KODAK solutions can help open up new opportunities for growth.” “For Drent Goebel, this open house is the perfect opportunity to introduce our latest developments to the North American market in a ‘real life’ situation, which means that they can witness the entire process from platemaking to finishing,” said Rob Schellekens, Director of Marketing and Sales at Drent Goebel. “Partnering with Kodak for prepress is the most logical option since they make top quality equipment that is fast and easy to use.” Configured specifically for package printers, the KODAK PRINERGY POWERPACK workflow system helps users improve efficiency, reduce costs and enhance print quality while preparing packaging jobs for production. The PRINERGY POWERPACK workflow system incorporates three important new features: two new ADOBE ACROBAT plug ins, which automate the management of correction cycles, and Rules Based Automation, which allows users to automate every action and event in the workflow. SPOTLESS software delivers spot color performance without the time and cost disadvantages typically associated with using special inks. By simulating spot colors with process colors rather than special inks, SPOTLESS software reduces print manufacturing costs, allows for more efficient press utilization, and offers brand owners and package designers more creative options for creating rich, vibrant, high impact packaging. STACCATO screening software produces high fidelity, artifact free images that exhibit fine detail without halftone rosettes, screening moiré, gray level limitations, or abrupt jumps in tone—with no impact on RIPing or rendering time. STACCATO screening improves color and halftone stability on press. The TRENDSETTER 800 II QUANTUM CTP device features SQUARESPOT imaging technology—the foundation for accurate and consistent presswork. SQUARESPOT imaging technology delivers end to end imaging integrity from the original file through to the press, despite normal plate imaging variables such as laser power, plate emulsion sensitivity and processor variation. The TRENDSETTER platesetter delivers precise fit and registration, from plate to plate and machine to machine, with automatic correction for temperature related plate expansion and contraction. The KODAK SWORD Excel thermal printing plate delivers run lengths of up to 500,000 impressions and hard dots that yield resolutions ranging from 1 percent to 99 percent at 200 LPI. By eliminating the preheat and postbake cycles, the SWORD Excel plate cuts processing time and allows prepress managers to utilize smaller processors. Other benefits of the SWORD Excel plate include faster imaging speeds, greater press chemical resistance, reduced processor maintenance and increased durability.
