Updated management tool for union shops now available from PIA/GATF

Press release from the issuing company

SEWICKLEY, PENNSYLVANIA (June 7, 2006) – Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF) proudly announces release of the newly updated Sample Union Contract Language Manual. More than just a review of union contract language, the book is a complete resource for those preparing to negotiate with their unions. “The book uses actual language from union contracts currently used in the printing industry to provide practical and realistic advice for printers,” says Jim Kyger, PIA/GATF’s Human Resources Director. A well-known expert in union issues of the printing industry, Kyger notes, “This is something every printer should review before going into negotiations.” Demonstrating a greater depth than previous versions, the labor manual includes contracts with the GCIU, IBT, Communication Workers of America/International Typographers Union (CWA/ITU), and PACE (Paper Allied Chemical Energy Workers). The information can help graphic arts employers set goals, formulate initial proposals, and successfully negotiate an agreement that benefits both unions and employers. Over 45 different contract topics are covered with examples presented from different unions: samples are identified by union, local number, city, and state. Employers are not identified. Printers will find this manual very useful as a source of language and ideas. Topics addressed include traditional areas of collective bargaining, such as health care, retirement, overtime, vacation, etc., as well as non-traditional topics such as confidentiality, incentive plans, part-time employees, 401(k), subcontracting, temporary transfers, temporary staffing, violence prevention, vision examinations (including color vision), and more! For over four decades, the Graphic Arts Employers of America (GAE) section of Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF) has served as a resource for companies dealing with union negotiations. This book is one of the many tools GAE has developed to assist its members. Cost of the manual (cat. no. 1824) is $80 for PIA/GATF members and $120 for nonmembers. To order call the PIA/GATF Bookstore at 866-855-4283, or visit the bookstore on www.gain.net.
