Sun Chemical and Heidelberg partner

Press release from the issuing company

WEXHAM SPRINGS, SLOUGH, ENGLAND - May 25, 2006 - Sun Chemical and Heidelberg are investigating new opportunities of working together in a move that will bring further benefits to customers of these two leading global companies. Colour specialist Sun Chemical, the world’s largest maker of inks and pigments, is linking up with Heidelberg, the world’s largest sheetfed offset press manufacturer, on new projects that will have spin-offs for customers around the globe. The foundations have been laid for longer-term co-operation through the two companies continuing to share knowledge and experiences. Ground-breaking research and development between Heidelberg and Sun Chemical on offset press inking was pivotal to the success of the new Heidelberg ‘Anicolor’ unit that is an integral part of a new Speedmaster SM 52 four-colour press launched at IPEX. The result has been an important development in sheetfed offset press design. The unit, which has no inking zones, makes it possible to produce even the shortest of runs using standard offset workflow but with significantly higher margins. Mike Winthrop, who heads up the Consumables Corporate Division of Heidelberg, said: "We are working together closely with Sun Chemical and looking at ways of forging new co-operation opportunities that will benefit our customers. IPEX seemed an appropriate opportunity to have interesting discussions." Felipe Mellado, Corporate Vice-President, Marketing and Technology, Sun Chemical Europe, said: "Our partnership with Heidelberg demonstrates both companies’ commitment to advance developments. This innovative breakthrough is one of the most important developments in sheetfed offset press design. We are working together on the next stages of the partnership, and more details will be announced soon."
