Kodak Launches Four Innovative Desktop Scanners

Press release from the issuing company

PHILADELPHIA, May 16 -- Imagine an unbeatable combination of unique features, ease-of-use, high image quality, speed, and price packed into a document scanner design that has the smallest operational workspace available. Imagination becomes reality in a new benchmark-setting line of desktop scanners that Eastman Kodak Company will unveil at the AIIM On Demand Conference & Exposition in Philadelphia from May 16-18. The four new scanner models-KODAK i1210 and i1220 Series Scanners for the workgroup segment and the KODAK i1310 and i1320 Series Scanners for the departmental segment-are designed and manufactured by Kodak. They represent the latest in the company's continuing commitment to deliver the most innovative, feature-rich portfolio of document scanners in the industry. New, incomparable features include: - Tilt and scan-allows you to adjust the angle of the scanner to accommodate either ad-hoc transaction or higher-volume batch scanning jobs for any available workspace. Tilt and scan complements the small footprint to afford people outstanding flexibility in optimizing scanner use in crowded workspaces. - Smart touch scanning-simplifies sending images to your choice of destination. With the touch of a button, easily send scanned documents to network, e-mail, print, or to your favorite desktop application in a number of file formats including PDF, TIFF, JPEG, RTF, and searchable PDF. Smart touch scanning helps maximize productivity for users through streamlining operation by reducing repetitive steps. - Attachable, tethered flatbed accessory-this optional A4-size flatbed accessory furthers your capability in capturing fragile or bound documents at very high optical resolution (1200 dpi). It simply attaches to the scanner with the included six-foot (two-metre) USB cable that enables a variety of placement options on your desktop to best suit space and workflow requirements. The tethered flatbed accessory provides a springboard to increasing office productivity as it enables sharing by workgroups within a department. Each series offer simplex (i1210, i1310) and duplex (i1220, i1320) models and all include enhanced Perfect Page image processing technology for producing high-quality images with ease. The workgroup i1200 Series captures images at up to 30 pages or 60 images per minute, while the departmental i1300 Series offers a maximum speed of 60 pages or 120 images pages per minute, the fastest speed in this category. "The innovations built into these scanners leverage Kodak's 16 plus years of experience in document scanning and listening to what end users want and need," said Erwin Schwarzl, General Manager, Document Imaging, and Vice President, Kodak's Graphic Communications Group. "For businesses, government agencies, and organizations looking to streamline their paper workloads, these scanners are indeed, powerful tools for the office." Both series can scan a wide range of documents, from wallet-sized plastic ID cards to long length credit applications, loans and medical monitoring strips. The feature rich software bundle includes SCANSOFT PAPERPORT and SCANSOFT OMNIPAGE Software from Nuance, and KODAK Capture Software, Lite, which provide users with a choice of applications to easily create, manage and share document images, convert images to documents using optical character recognition (OCR), or process complex document batches with powerful batch capture capabilities. The i1200 and i1300 Series Scanners offer maximum capability and flexibility for any paper intensive environment, including finance, accounting, insurance, corporate, healthcare, education, transportation, law offices and government administration. The following examples illustrate a few ways the scanners can benefit any size business, agency and organization: Remote bank branches can use i1300 Series Scanners for quickly processing forms and applications at 60 pages per minute. Transportation company front offices can use i1200 Series Scanners to scan package labels and bills of lading. For scanning labels affixed to bulky packages-the attachable, tethered flatbed accessory gets the job done without permanently occupying limited front office workspace. University financial aid offices can use i1200 Series Scanners to complete processes for billings and aid disbursements-all with the touch of a button. Healthcare insurers can use i1300 Series to process thousands of claims received daily. "As the volume of business documents increases and compliance issues place document management under added scrutiny, document scanning is becoming an integral part of the corporate environment," Schwarzl said. "The need to achieve high image quality as quickly and easily as possible-while keeping both the footprint and price point small-are what these scanners were designed to do." In addition to functionality and performance, the i1200 and i1300 Series Scanners offer maximum affordability. Depending on model, the scanners are expected to range in U.S. list price from about $800 to $3,000. The new product line is backed with a one-year warranty from KODAK Service & Support, the benchmark service provider for the document imaging industry. Orders for all four of the scanners are being taken now through Kodak's channel partners.
