KODAK PRINERGY Workflow System Drives KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Press at AIIM ON DEMAND

Press release from the issuing company

PHILADELPHIA, May 17 -- Kodak demonstrates the new KODAK PRINERGY system digital print workflow for the KODAK NEXPRESS digital color production press at 2006 AIIM ON DEMAND. Available in the new PRINERGY 3.1 workflow system, the enhanced digital print option gives graphic communications companies centralized job management of both digital print and traditional workflows, such as offset, flexo and gravure. "The PRINERGY system digital print option is enhanced to deliver a new level of flexibility for blended production environments. Users can capture the multiple revenue opportunities that exist with digital print output, such as preproduction short runs for review or customized versions," said Jeff Hayzlett, Chief Marketing Officer, Kodak's Graphic Communications Group (GCG). "This Unified Workflow option lets print providers make quick decisions on the fly about running a job in offset or digital. Productivity goes up, and so does return on investment in all systems." The PRINERGY system digital print option integrates the NEXPRESS JDF Workflow Planner and enables full access to the JDF capabilities of the NEXSTATION digital front end for output on NEXPRESS presses. Operators launch the JDF Workflow Planner from within the PRINERGY workflow system to create JDF templates with access to all NEXPRESS system print settings, from substrate selection down to control over the NEXPRESS fifth imaging unit solution to gloss, coat or achieve a richer color gamut. With the PRINERGY system digital print option, prepress operators can easily define, initiate, and automate digital print jobs to ensure optimal press utilization and faster turnarounds on shorter print runs. The improved workflow integration allows users greater flexibility to respond to diverse customer demands while reducing manual errors that can hurt profitability. "The new PRINERGY system digital print option further extends the integration and automation capabilities that are the backbone of a KODAK Unified Workflow solution," said Stan Coleman, General Manager, Unified Workflow, GCG. "It is another example of how KODAK Unified Workflow solutions can help print business owners eliminate workflow bottlenecks and maximize the investments they make in digital and offset production systems." The PRINERGY 3.1 workflow system, including the new digital print option, is available this month. It functions with all PRINERGY workflow system configurations-PRINERGY CONNECT, PRINERGY DIRECT, PRINERGY POWERPACK, PRINERGY Evo and PRINERGY Publish workflow systems. Consistent with Kodak's commitment to open solutions, the feature will provide connectivity options for qualified digital presses from other manufacturers.
