XMPie Unveils uEdit, a New Flash-based Online Editor for Web-to-Print

PHILADELPHIA, May 16, 2006 – AIIM/ON DEMAND 2006 -- XMPie, www.xmpie.com, the award-winning provider of dynamic publishing software today unveiled uEdit, a Web-based document editing solution and the latest addition to XMPie’s fast expanding product line. uEdit is a Flash applet that enables remote online editing of documents using any Web browser, on any computer platform, Mac, PC, and even mobile platforms, that support Flash. uEdit is a thin client application with nearly instant download time without requirements for ActiveX or Java applet download. uEdit is being demonstrated in XMPie’s Booth #3257 at AIIM / On Demand. As a Flash applet, uEdit can be easily incorporated with any Web-to-Print or other custom-developed solutions that are based on XMPie technology, including: 1. uStore: uEdit is completely integrated into uStore, XMPie’s solution for rapid deployment of branded, e-commerce enabled, online stores without involving programmers. uEdit extends uStore’s document ordering and customization features by allowing real-time, remote template design editing. 2. Custom solutions: uEdit provides XMPie customers, as well as professional service providers who developer custom solutions, the unique ability to easily add online editing of documents and templates to their XMPie Web Services-based solutions, including custom-made Web-to-Print solutions. Consumers or corporate users who visit online Web-to-Print stores can customize document template content and design with uEdit’s rich set of editing capabilities, including: - Layout changes o Moving objects (text boxes, image boxes, etc.) on a page o Resizing objects (including fitting modes and scaling) o Rotating objects (including an item within its container box) o Creating and deleting objects o Changing the layering of objects - Appearance changes o Font changes, including color, style and paragraph alignment o Border width and color o Background color - Content changes o Live text typing o Assigning and replacing images o Creating and modifying dynamic content by tagging them with ADOR Objects o Setting values for objects that contain dynamic data (customization). Based on XMPie’s XLIM technology, uEdit is intimately integrated with XMPie’s tools, supporting Adobe InDesign template creation within uDirect or uCreate, and variable output stream generation within uProduce composition servers. Because XLIM documents are easily exported and imported with uDirect and uCreate in a streamlined workflow, remote online editing with uEdit and local editing with Adobe InDesign and uDirect or uCreate are completely interchangeable and transferable. uEdit allows a privileged user (such as a uStore administrator) to define, per document object or per editing functions group, what may or may not be changed by a regular user (such as an online store visitor in uStore). uEdit supports a highly granular set of such locking capabilities that do not depend on advance preparation in the initial template creation phase but are instead supported directly within the uEdit workflow, and can be easily modified within this workflow by a privileged user. “We developed uEdit to cater to customer requests for a Web-based remote online editor, especially for use in conjunction with Web-to-Print applications,” said Reuven Sherwin, executive vice president of Research and Development, XMPie. “We bring a new approach to online editing that is native to the unique XMPie workflow and is widely applicable since it is based on the commonly used Flash technology and is entirely computer-platform and browser agnostic. We also made uEdit an entirely modular addition to our product line, providing both out-of-the-box functionality as well as usability for custom development.” uEdit beta will begin shipping in July 2006 to select customers.
