Canon and Equitrac Partner on Development of Embedded Applications for Intelligent Cost Recovery and Print Management

Press release from the issuing company

AIIM-ON DEMAND EXPO -- PHILADELPHIA, May 16 -- Equitrac Corporation, the leader in intelligent cost recovery and print management solutions worldwide, has licensed the software development kit for the proprietary Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform (MEAP) from Canon U.S.A., Inc., to develop embedded client software for Canon's award-winning line of multifunctional products (MFPs). To be developed by Equitrac using Canon's MEAP software development kit, the Equitrac MEAP client will provide direct MFP front panel access to Equitrac's industry-leading print, copy, scan and fax tracking capabilities with Follow-You Printing and Secure Document Release features. The Equitrac MEAP client application is being developed to meet the requirements of Equitrac's existing customers in the Legal and Professional, Education and General Office Markets. The solution will allow Canon and Equitrac customers to choose front panel implementations of Equitrac's popular applications without the need for an external terminal device. Equitrac's solutions are in use by thousands of organizations to generate revenue from document output and manage devices for optimal use and deployment while minimizing cost and reducing waste. By integrating into the Canon MFP front panel, Equitrac plans to deliver superior functionality and a consistent user interface to end-users while providing detailed user-level job tracking for every print, copy, scan, and fax operation. In Legal and Professional environments, these solutions support cost recovery of document expenses incurred on behalf of clients. For Educational institutions, the Equitrac solution allows students, staff, faculty and guests to share output devices while keeping users accountable for what they print and implementing student quota and payment options. For businesses, Equitrac solutions offer tools for waste reduction through secure document release and provide color output quota management to enable the confident deployment of color devices. Equitrac solutions also provide IT departments the detailed reports and analysis necessary for data-driven equipment procurement and deployment decisions. "The MEAP technology will help organizations to better tailor their system functions to specific industry or business needs," said Sam Yoshida, director and general manager, Product Marketing Division, Canon U.S.A., Inc. "The integration of the Equitrac applications with Canon's innovative MEAP technology will allow organizations to more easily implement these solutions and realize improved document security, cost reduction and increased end-user convenience." "Equitrac is pleased to expand our existing partnership with Canon U.S.A. to enable the delivery of our intelligent cost recovery and print management solutions onto the front panel of Canon's line of imageRUNNER MFPs," said Michael Rich, CEO, Equitrac. "Canon's MEAP technology provides a rich platform for delivery of applications that will delight our customers with improved convenience and productivity." The Equitrac MEAP application will be available later in 2006. Equitrac solutions and executives will be in attendance at the company's booth (#328) at the AIIM Expo Conference & Exhibition, May 15-18, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, PA.
