EFI Delivers Mac Workflow Designed for Graphic Arts and Light Production Customers

Press release from the issuing company

PHILADELPHIA--May 16, 2006-- EFI, the world leader in digital controllers, superwide format printers and inks, and print management solutions for commercial and enterprise printing, today announced the availability of the new EFI Splash RPX-i Mac OS X-based workflow software option for Fiery servers driving Xerox Corporation's award-winning Multifunction Products (MFP), the 40-ppm DocuColor 240 and the 50-ppm DocuColor 250 color multifunction systems. Building on the momentum of the popular Splash(TM) G-series servers, the only high-performance graphic arts color servers that run Mac OS X, the Splash RPX-i Fiery option delivers high levels of color management and quality for graphic arts and workflow and production tools for light production environments. According to the San Jose Mercury News (March 26, 2006), "Mac sales are exceeding industry growth rates. Apple shipped 38 percent more Macs in the fiscal year ended Sept. 24, 2005, than in the prior year, and shipments were up 20 percent in the last three months of 2005." Splash RPX-i is ideal for Xerox customers in color-critical, high-quality Mac-based environments such as Advertising (Ad Agencies and Corporate); Proofing for Commercial Printers; Newspaper & Creative Entertainment; and Proofing for Packaging. "EFI Splash RPX-i delivers the same high level of innovation and customer value we've come to expect from EFI solutions, providing graphic artists with superior color and production tools," said Tim Williams, president, Xerox Office Group. The EFI Splash RPX-i workflow solution is the option for the Fiery Network Controller driving the Xerox DocuColor 240/250 that empowers customers with color management, document management and production features to meet the precision printing needs of their most demanding creative assignments. The Splash RPX-i allows users to choose either the Splash user interface or the Fiery Command WorkStation interface. Graphic designers and traditional Splash users can opt to take advantage of the Splash user interfaces. In a corporate environment with a mix of application requirements, "power Office users" can choose the Fiery interface while users in marketing/graphic arts departments can opt for the Splash interface. With either choice, engine utilization is maximized. Other key features and customer benefits include: * Mac OSX-based: establishes a consistent workflow from document creations through printing in a Mac client environment * Splash RPX-i includes SmartRIP technology, the EFI software architecture introduced in next-generation Fiery servers that combines intelligent processing with the efficient utilization of the latest in hardware to significantly accelerate RIPing performance, ensuring the fastest possible processing speeds for all hardware configurations. * ColorCal offers a closed-loop calibration system using a simple yet effective scan and print interface. ColorCal supports the EFI ES-1000 spectrophotometer. * The significantly enhanced Color Tuner lets the user edit the output color of RIPped pages before printing all copies of the job thereby reducing costly re-work. * Hot Folders allow users to create unlimited folders and apply a specific set of job options to any Postscript, TIFF, TIFF-IT, EPS, PDF, CT/NLW or DCS 2.0 files placed in the folder, capturing recurring job settings and reducing operator error. * Preflight Report and the Color Postflight tool gives users the power to review jobs for errors before their projects hit paper, saving time, eliminating waste, and reducing costs * Standard Splash production features include Schedule Job to automate workflow and SetBuilder to group documents and print them with one set of commands increasing productivity at print time. Among its functions, the Tab Printing feature offers the unique ability to print colored images and vertical text on tab ears. "Xerox and EFI have a successful history of providing, innovative high-value solutions," said Fred Rosenzweig president, EFI. "The new Splash RPX-i is well-positioned to continue that success as it provides graphic artists and other customers in light production Mac environments with the means to most efficiently create high quality color documents." Availability Splash RPX-i for the Xerox DocuColor 240/250 color multifunction system will be shown at Xerox Corporation's On Demand Booth 2100 and available through Xerox direct sales, authorized sales agents and concessionaires.
