Oce DDS President Wins Prestigious IRgA Award

Press release from the issuing company

BOCA RATON, Fla., May 9 -- Oce, a global leader in digital document management and delivery solutions, announces that Malkon Baboyian, president of Oce Digital Document Systems, has been selected for the prestigious Bukovsky Award presented annually by the International Reprographics Association (IRgA). The Bukovsky award was created in memory of George K. Bukovsky, who worked in the reprographics industry for more than 30 years and was a dedicated member of the IRgA. The award was established in 1990 to honor his great contributions by recognizing others who have similarly made a lasting impact on the reprographics industry. Baboyian, who served two terms on the IRgA Board of Directors, was honored for his efforts in supporting the growth of the industry and the IRgA organization. His contributions have focused on all the association's activities, including the trade show and education programs, and he has been a generous contributor of funding for special projects. Mr. Baboyian was also honored for the significant impact he has had on the industry. Leading the launch of the breakthrough Oce 9800, a high-speed production printer and scanner for wide format drawings, Mr. Baboyian helped revolutionize the way reprographics customers did business by enabling them to use digital workflow to deliver higher value to their clients. As a result, Oce captured leading market share in a segment where the company had no previous presence. "Mr. Baboyian, along with his employer, Oce, were instrumental in introducing the single most impactful device to the reprographics industry in a generation, the Oce 9800," said Chuck Gremillion, past president of the IRgA. "The Oce 9800 was the breakthrough device that converted the reprographics industry from an analog diazo process to a digital plain-paper process. It not only transformed our industry, but forever changed how reprographers do business!" Together with Oce Repro Desk software, the Oce 9800 enabled reprographers to serve architecture, engineering and construction clients in ways never before possible. Instead of forcing clients to come in person when requiring prints of drawings, reprographics customers could submit these important drawings online for printing, capturing significant productivity, along with savings of time and money. In addition, reprographers could scan and archive drawings on behalf of their customers, bringing additional service and value to these relationships. As a result, reprographers could drive greater productivity into their operations, while becoming a more integral part of their customers' businesses. "This award is the highest recognition one can receive in the reprographics industry, and I am honored to have been chosen to join a group of this caliber," said Mr. Baboyian. "It has been my privilege to have worked with many talented colleagues throughout my career, and this recognition acknowledges the common goals we have all worked together to achieve." Baboyian joined Oce in 1976, and he has provided executive leadership to both the wide and narrow format divisions since 1990, helping build the organization into a market leader. With deep "front line" experience, Baboyian brings a strong customer perspective and thorough understanding of the overall marketplace. As president of Oce North America's Digital Document Systems (DDS) since 2003, he has been responsible for strategic direction and managerial excellence to ensure continuing growth and profitability in the highly competitive transactional and commercial print markets. Under Baboyian's leadership, DDS has consistently achieved revenue and profit growth targets. Today, Oce is recognized as an industry leader in helping customers manage market convergence and the blending of data center and publishing environments with transactional data needs. Members of the IRgA Past Presidents Advisory Council selected 2006 recipients from a record number of nominations. Along with Mr. Baboyian, the other 2006 winners are Sathy "Mohan" Chandramohan, CEO, American Reprographics Company, and Carol Nelson, District Manager, Thomas Reprographics Inc.
