Web Offset Association and Flint Group Announce the Recipient of the 2006 H. Howard Flint II Pressroom Manager of the Year Award

Press release from the issuing company

Sewickley, PA, May 8, 2006-- The Web Offset Association and the Flint Group are pleased to announce the first recipient of the H. Howard Flint II Pressroom Manager of the Year Award. The recipient is Philip E. Archer of Von Hoffmann Corporation, a subsidiary of Visant Corporation. Archer was the pressroom manager at Visant's educational textbook facility in Jefferson City, Missouri, recently promoted to operations manager. He has taken the pressroom to a higher level of performance and improvement. Not only is he a master pressman, but he is also involved with leadership and crew development training. His dedication and knowledge regarding web presses is phenomenal. He also has been converting all presses to print to SWOP standards, improving the quality throughout the department. Visant Corporation is a leading marketing and publishing services enterprise servicing the school affinity, direct marketing, fragrance and cosmetics and educational publishing markets. Visant includes the operations of market leaders Jostens, Inc., Von Hoffmann Corporation, and Arcade Marketing. Archer's nominators and supporters have made it quite clear that he is well-deserving of the award. As one supporter expressed, "he has been instrumental in transforming this facility into the world-class organization it is today." Archer began his printing career in 1984 at R.R. Donnelley and Sons in Torrance, California, where he was employed for ten years. He took part in the implementation and responsibility of the Toshiba, Baker Perkins, and Harris M-3000 presses. As he advanced through his profession, he was employed as a pressroom manager in Denver, Colorado for A.B. Hirschfeld Press. Archer was hired for training purposes because the press department needed to improve its run speed and quality while reducing waste and downtime. He was also in charge of departmental budgets, hiring, scheduling, and maintaining the presses. He accepted a position with World Color in Tennessee in 1997 as a pressroom supervisor and in 1999 was promoted to pressroom manager. This title increased his responsibilities to ten presses. Archer joined Von Hoffmann Corporation in April 2002. This award is dedicated to the memory of H. Howard Flint II, former Chairman of Flint Ink, who passed away in 2005. Flint was an industry luminary and well known for his dedication to training and education. He was a supporter of WOA as well as PIA/GATF and the Printing and Graphics Scholarship Foundation and was active in many areas of these associations. The Web Offset Association and the Flint Group will present Archer with a commemorative plaque and a conference package. Archer will have the opportunity to recognize a graphic arts school of his choice with a $2,000 scholarship check. The presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, May 23, at the Gaylord Palms in Orlando, Florida during the 54th WOA Annual Conference.
