LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y.--April 21, 2006-- Commemorating Earth Day 2006 and its commitment to a sustainable environment, Canon U.S.A., Inc., will host Earth Day festivities at its Long Island, N.Y., headquarters on Friday, April 21st. The Canon Earth Day celebration will feature Yellowstone National Park and the Yellowstone Park Foundation (Eyes on Yellowstone is made possible by Canon - an educational and research program), PBS NATURE series (supported by Canon U.S.A. since 1990), the Canon National Parks Science Scholars Program (the only program that encourages doctoral students to conduct innovative research on scientific problems critical to national parks) and Canon Envirothon (North America's largest high school environmental education competition). Organizations that will join Canon U.S.A. management and employees for Earth Day at the company's headquarters include the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center in Oyster Bay, N.Y.; Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium in Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.; and Alley Pond Environmental Center in Douglaston, N.Y.; and the National Environmental Education and Training Foundation (NEETF), based in Washington, D.C. Canon operations in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Chicago and Jamesburg, N.J., among other locations, also will commemorate Earth Day with various activities during April. The Earth Day celebration also will mark the beginning of a new season for the Canon Clean Earth Crew. Through this program, Canon employees volunteer their time for conservation efforts at parks, beaches and nature preserves in communities nationwide. On April 29th, for example, Canon U.S.A. Headquarters employees will be helping to prepare Old Bethpage Village Restoration, a historic 19th century Long Island village, for the spring and summer seasons by pruning trees and painting fencing. Canon also supports the single largest environmental education event in U.S. history - the National Environmental Education Week, April 16th - 22nd. The weeklong learning event, sponsored by Canon U.S.A. and the NEETF, is expected to involve more than 100,000 teachers and nature educators and more than three million students at 50,000 schools, 400 universities, and zoos, aquariums and nature centers nationwide.
