First UK customer for Oce VarioStream 9230 signs at IPEX

Press release from the issuing company

Birmingham, April 4, 2006 – Henry Ling, a leading manufacturer of academic journals and books, has signed up at IPEX as the first UK customer for Océ’s 3-highlight colour digital book production system, the VarioStream 9230. The Océ VarioStream 9230 is a member of the VarioStream 9000 series of digital printing systems. It uses a unique migration path from black and white to colour printing in order to offer a freedom of choice for print media, data resolutions and the use of colour unrivalled in the digital press arena. The core of the new technology is an 800 image per minute duplex in one pass platform that is prepared for integrating up to four colour stations in addition to black. Based on an intelligent migration concept, the VarioStream 9000 system allows users to take full advantage of Océ’s proven competitive Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for conventional black and white printing. At the same time, it can be adapted to take further applications, in this case colour, if the need arises, without losing the black and white functionality. The VarioStream 9000 series can be teamed with a variety of pre- and post-processing equipment. Helen Kennett, Head of Manufacturing, Henry Ling, said: “The main reason we chose the Océ VarioStream 9230 is for its quality. We believe it is the first digital web machine that provides the sufficient high quality needed for the quality book and journal markets, whilst remaining cost effective to run. The market sector we operate in is heading towards shorter, digital runs. The VarioStream 9230 will bring improvements in capacity in this area and help us continue to deliver the high standard of printed materials our customers have come to expect. We have always invested in the latest advanced technology machines, and what better platform than IPEX to sign this innovative product.” Simon Wheeler UK Business Director for Océ Digital Document Systems, said: “We are delighted that Henry Ling has become the first UK customer for the VarioStream 9230. We are confident that the technological advances in this machine will help the company deliver a high standard of printed products for its customers. The high speed will also provide extra capacity, and its diversity will allow a wide range of jobs to be produced on the machine. It is a true example of our IPEX theme, “Print Innovation through Convergence”.
