WS Bookwell acquires its second World's biggest platesetter

Press release from the issuing company

WS Bookwell is one of the largest book producers in the Nordic countries, which has spread far beyond Finland's frontiers. In 2003 the company installed their first ctp device and the World's largest format platesetter capable of imaging plates measuring 3.147 x 1.515 mm (124 x 59”). At IPEX Bookwell signed the contract for the second system – the UV-Setter 1642. WS Bookwell is producing more than 22 million books a year using a Bookomatic Press. Three years ago the company implemented their first CtP device for imaging UV-sensitive plates, replacing their aging projection systems. The system has been designed just for this installatation by Punch Graphix. The plate used for the Bookomatic press is large enough to contain 70 A4 pages. Additionally, the flexibility of the UV-Setter allows the company the ability to produce smaller plates (790 x 1045 mm; 30 x 40”) used on their sheet-fed presses for book covers. Juha Harmonen, automation engineer, comments: “The investment for the initial UV-Setter was easily justified in the first years' savings. Now faced with a fast expanding business, we need a second platesetter to keep up with production.” Though the format for both plate setters are the same, the new system incorporates basysPrint's scrolling technology (DSI²) where imaging speeds are increased over the previous three generations of UV-Setters. Punch Graphix is the only manufacturer producing platesetting equipment starting at the 4-up right through to the VLF sizes for 70-up. The basysPrint UV-Setter exposes UV-sensitive plates digitally. This guarantees not only high processing stability even at long run requirements, but also delivers substantial savings up to six digits per year in some cases therefore providing the best return on investment.
