Centerbrook, CT (October 15, 2007)— EPG (Essex Products Group) , a global leader in the manufacture of integrated color control systems and software, announces that Emmerich Newspapers, Inc., in Jackson, Mississippi,  has chosen a KeyColor System, including KeyColor AutoSet presetting software, for installation on a two Quad-Stack web press at its McCombEnterprise Journal plant in McComb, Mississippi. EPG KeyColor remote ink control technology provides state-of-the-art, user-friendly digital control of fountain ink keys from a central ink desk to speed makeready and reduce waste.
Emmerich Newspapers, Inc., is a 100-year-old family-owned Mississippi company that publishes four daily and 21 weekly newspapers throughout Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana.  Wyatt Emmerich, president, explains that he researched extensively the cost benefit of the remote ink control process and the available technology.
"Computerized inking is the future for newspapers. Commercial printers realized that a long time ago. Readers and advertisers are demanding higher quality. The good news is that this quality is achievable at reasonable cost. In terms of our choosing EPG technology, I'm not sure I've encountered an equipment supplier that got such overwhelmingly positive reviews among its customers" he says.
The ink control system purchased for the Quad-Stacks includes a KeyColor C console with digital touch screen control, sixteen KeyColor Smart Fountains, and KeyColor AutoSet  presetting software. "The KeyColor design is simple and elegant and the Windows-style interface is intuitive and logical," Emmerich says.  The upgrade also includes Zephyr segmented blades.
KeyColor Systems are designed for both new manufacture and field retrofit presses to help printers produce high quality sheetfed and web products and save time and money by speeding makeready and reducing waste. The KeyColor System for the Quad-Stacks will provide user-friendly touch screen control of ink keys for rapid adjustments. Smart Fountain technology connects the ink desk to the fountain with a single six-wire cable. The new KeyColor AutoSet presetting software will convert digital data from a CTP system in the prepress department to preset all ink keys accurately for even faster makeready.
Regarding a return on the company's investment, Emmerich expects payback on several levels.  "We believe the EPG system will pay for itself in newsprint waste savings in two to three years. In addition, we will get print quality and labor benefits. We are excited about implementing this new equipment."
