Kirkwood Printing Wins Two Sappi Awards with Van Son Ink

Press release from the issuing company

Islandia, New York, March 30, 2006 -- Van Son Holland Ink Corporation, a leading global manufacturer of high-performance printing inks for offset presses, today announced that Kirkwood Printing, recently listed as one of the top twenty commercial printers in the Boston area, won both the 2005 Sappi Fine Paper North American Printer of the Year and the 2005 Sappi Fine Paper International Printer of the Year awards using its Quickson PRO ink. The Printer of the Year awards are sponsored by Sappi Fine Paper, a producer of coated fine paper, for the purpose of “recognizing and rewarding excellence in print.” Judging is conducted by independent print experts nominated by national printing federations. Kirkwood won both awards based on the entry of a 2004 annual report it printed for Courier Corporation using Quickson PRO ink and one of the newest and fastest Heidelberg sheetfed presses on the market, a 41? eight-color Speedmaster XL105 with in-line aqueous coating. Kirkwood first captured the Gold Award as Sappi North American Printer of the Year at a ceremony held in Quebec City, Canada, and subsequently went on to receive the Sappi International Printer of the Year for 2005 in Shanghai, China, the only U.S. company to be honored at the ceremony with this recognition. Eddie Kelley, Kirkwood's chief operating officer, notes that selecting the right ink has proven essential for the high quality printing the company is noted for producing. “There are a lot of different inks on the market. We have found the main differentiator to be the ink's stability, which is critical to the quality of the finished product,” said Kelley. “When you are running sheetfed you have a lot of start-ups and shut-downs, making it easy to lose in quality. Van Son's Quickson PRO has proven to us time and again to be the most stable ink on the market today.” Kirkwood Printing was founded in 1973 and purchased in 2004 by the current owners. The company has been recognized as one of the fastest growing sales organizations in the Boston Business Journal's list of top 20 printing companies. In addition to being named a Sappi Printer of the Year, Kirkwood Printing has won numerous other awards for quality printing including 22 Bow Tie Awards and 11 First Place Trophies at the annual 2005 Boston Craftsman's and Litho Club dinner. Kirkwood uses Quickson PRO exclusively due to its ability to meet the high standards the commercial print company has set for all its suppliers. Key attributes of Quickson PRO include: excellent ink and water balance, making it an ink that sets extremely fast with a variety of fountain solutions; its ability to stay fresh overnight on the press; and the ability to dry fast and hard on a variety of substrates. Additionally, after processing, Quickson PRO may be coated in-line with aqueous coatings, off-line with UV coating and will film laminate. It is laser safe after 48-72 hours of curing time. Quickson PRO is available in Process colors and 16 basic PANTONE colors packaged in 2.2 lb. vacuum-sealed cans. “We are honored that Kirkwood Printing has chosen Quickson PRO as the exclusive ink for all its press applications,” said Joe Bendowski, president, Van Son Holland Ink. “We are also very proud Quickson PRO contributed to the company winning the prestigious Sappi awards. Van Son heartily congratulates Kirkwood Printing and looks forward to contributing to the company's continued success.” For more information on Quickson PRO ink, visit www.vansonink.com or call the dedicated Quickson PRO hot line at 800-645-4182.
