Press release from the issuing company

IPEX 2006, Birmingham, UK (April 4, 2006) - Creo Print On-Demand Solutions (PODS) Group is demonstrating new advanced tools for Variable Data Printing (VDP) at IPEX 2006, April 4-11, 2006. These solutions include a new VDP output format policy that provides users with full flexibility, as well as new versions of the popular DARWIN VI authoring tool for both the MAC and WINDOWS operating systems. The Creo Print On-Demand Solutions Group is an independent unit of Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group. New! Output Format Policy for DARWIN VI Authoring Tool Creo PODS’s new policy on output format demonstrates the openness and flexibility of the DARWIN VI authoring tool. The DARWIN applications will generate most of the industry-leading VDP output formats, including CREO PODS Variable Print Specification (VPS), XEROX VIPP, PPML, PPML/VDX and Optimised POSTSCRIPT. The new policy will first be implemented in the latest version, 1.5, of the DARWIN VI authoring tool for ADOBE INDESIGN software using the MAC operating system. Users of the DARWIN VI authoring tools will be able to output any file format without additional cost. New! Version 1.5 of DARWIN VI Authoring Tool for ADOBE INDESIGN Software, MACINTOSH OS Version 1.5 of the DARWIN VI authoring tool enables ADOBE INDESIGN CS and CS2 software users to design, author and manage personalised, full-colour variable information documents such as direct mail, reports, invitations, statements, brochures, and other powerful 1:1 marketing communications. As a plug-in to ADOBE INDESIGN software, the DARWIN VI authoring tool enables designers to work in a familiar environment and take advantage of the programme’s functionalities with full creative freedom. New features in version 1.5 include personalised, multiple-type, barcode creation, colour rule, preflight, auto-fitting, multiple-output formats support, and other advanced features for creating complex VDP jobs. New! Version 1.5 of DARWIN VI Authoring Tool for ADOBE INDESIGN Software, WINDOWS OS Creo PODS is demonstrating a pre-release version of the DARWIN VI authoring tool for the growing number of ADOBE INDESIGN CS2 software users who utilise the WINDOWS operating system. Version 1.5 of the DARWIN application includes advanced new features for enhanced VDP production such as automatic barcode generation and personalised images for the creation of visually rich 1:1 campaigns with impressive impact. For example, the name of a targeted customer can appear engraved in the image of a gold chain or a piece of leather with realistic texture. For advanced, more sophisticated personalisation imagery effects, Creo PODS provides integration with leading image personalisation solutions, including DIRECTYPE and DIRECTSMILE. This new release is based on a version of the DARWIN VI authoring tool that was released earlier this year for WINDOWS OS. This earlier version features direct access to external databases of any type, supports non-Roman languages using double-byte support, and auto-fitting capabilities that automatically size text or an image to the size of the box itself. It includes a new GUI designed specifically for WINDOWS users.
