RR Donnelley Financial Services Business Launches Novel Digital Press Configuration

Press release from the issuing company

CHICAGO, March 23 -- RR Donnelley & Sons Company has added a new digital press with in-line binding capability to its downtown Manhattan press room. The one-of-a-kind equipment configuration will provide unparalleled capabilities to RR Donnelley's Financial Services Business clients. Working closely with industry-leading equipment manufacturers, RR Donnelley has deployed a press-binder configuration optimized to run low weight paper at very high speeds. The run speed of 415 linear feet per minute is nearly twice as fast as the next fastest machine in the financial printing segment. Unlike the normal 40 pound paper standard for book-making machines, RR Donnelley's equipment configuration can accommodate paper as light as 27 pounds, with in-line stitching, press pasting and perfect binding. By eliminating traditional offline processes, the equipment can print and bind as many as 1,000 black and white books in just three hours, with first books available in less than an hour. Tom Juhase, President, RR Donnelley's Financial Services Business, stated, "This is another example of what happens when preparation meets opportunity. We continue to increase the flexibility of our manufacturing platform to address our clients' needs in an evolving regulatory environment. This new print/bind configuration gives our clients the best resource for their short lead-time and print-on-demand requirements. Our internal manufacturing experts, the teams at our valued suppliers and I share a passion to innovate to meet client needs."
