ICS to Show PrintMedia Conference Attendees How to Harness the Power of Remote Proofing

Press release from the issuing company

New York, NY; March 16, 2006 – Integrated Color Solutions (ICS), creators of the award-winning Remote Director, will show publishing executives how to “Manage the Evolution” using the latest monitor proofing technologies during this year’s PrintMedia Conference & Expo, set to begin on March 20th in New York City. Executives and publishers attending the PrintMedia Conference & Expo will have an opportunity to see Remote Director in action and learn how their operations can benefit from the power of remote proofing. “Time is a crucial element for anyone in the printing business, but nowhere is that more apparent than in the publishing sector where print files are transmitted, and paper proofs follow by courier or overnight delivery,” notes John Sweeney, vice president of sales and marketing for ICS. “As printers install Remote Director on press, and publishers check incoming ad files with Remote Director, later closing ads can be accepted, and editorial staffs have more time to put the finishing touches on copy.” The latest version of Remote Director, released earlier this year, includes a number of enhancements and added features, including: • JDF support for easy integration into virtually any workflow • support for Photoshop native (.psd) file format • ICC profile editing for better color manipulation and control • email notification, allowing for immediate notice of files ready for viewing/approval • optional download of the PANTONE color library • single image sign-off • optional customer branding, allowing users to build and promote their brand to their clients With these new features, Remote Director users will enjoy enhanced integration into their digital workflow, and improved productivity. With support for JDF and Photoshop file formats as well as a direct link to PANTONE color libraries, users are able to automate and expand their use of Remote Director. Email notification streamlines both the color correction and approval cycles, saving valuable time. “We don’t have the luxury of being able to ship color proofs to our printer,” says Cheryl Peters, Production Director for Time Out Chicago. “That’s one reason we use Remote Director.” At Time Out Chicago, time is not only important, it’s crucial. Producing a full-size arts and entertainment magazine requires tight deadlines and a tighter schedule. “We start closing 85% of each issue on Friday, with our materials delivering to the printer on Friday,” Peters explains. “We’re literally on press Saturday in most cases. With the balance of the magazine closing Monday evening, we are on press hours after pages are approved.” Time Out Chicago uses Remote Director as an internal proof for all of its images, for color-accurate proofing, eliminating all of the magazine’s hard proofing. Time Out transfers files via FTP to its printer, which is tightly linked into its workflow. Peters estimates that Time Out Chicago uses approximately 1900 proofs per month, with approximately 575 of those being with the magazine’s printer. With the overnight delivery costs associated with that number of files going to and from the printer, the expense savings is obvious. ICS’s Remote Director is the first SWOP-certified, display-based contract proofing system that applies advanced color management and software technologies to ensure color-accurate proofs. It allows multiple users to view the same artwork, add comments and collaborate about color as well as content and build a complete digital record of the entire job from start to finish – all without consideration for geographical borders. Remote Director also features a suite of tools designed specifically for printers, giving users instant navigation of a color-managed monitor proof at press. This helps users in terms of make-ready time, as well as eliminates the costly handling of paper proofs. ICS will demonstrate Remote Director live throughout the PrintMedia Conference & Expo.
