PARSIPPANY, NJ - Feb. 28, 2006 - Ronald C. Baker, president of US Ink, the largest news ink manufacturer in the United States, passed away today. He is survived by his wife, Irene, and daughter, Sherryl. Baker ran US Ink since 1994, when Sun Chemical merged United States Printing Ink (USPI) and its news ink division to form US Ink Corporation. Sun Chemical acquired USPI and Millmaster Onyx Group in 1993. “Ron played a vital role in the ink industry,” said David Hill, Sun Chemical CEO and president. “We at Sun Chemical offer our condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed.” Baker’s distinguished career in the ink industry spanned over 50 years. He began his career in 1954, and joined USPI in 1959 as a chemist in its Research and Development Lab. In 1965, Ron joined Sinclair and Valentine, where he helped launch its news ink business, including the establishment of a plant to handle the entire manufacturing process. In 1972, he rejoined USPI as Western Operations Manager and in 1975 was named Executive Vice President. Two years later Ron was named President of USPI. In 1990, he accepted the additional responsibility as President and Chief Executive Officer of Millmaster Onyx Group, responsible for the company’s divisions: USPI, Mantrose-Haeuser and Millmaster International. Baker earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He was member of the National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers (NAPIM) and served as a Board Member of the organization for 20 years. Ron was president of NAPIM from 1987 to 1989, and in 1990 received the Ault Award, the ink industry’s highest award.
