Quad/Graphics Named Newsweek's Printer of the Year - 21st Consecutive Year

Press release from the issuing company

Quad/Graphics has been named Newsweek’s 2005 Printer of the Year – the 21st consecutive year we've earned the newsweekly’s exclusive honor. “Year in and year out, Quad/Graphics focuses on our needs and gives us what we require to remain competitive,” said Mark Heeman, Newsweek’s Associate Director of Manufacturing. “For instance, paper and postage are our two biggest expenditures and Quad focuses on reducing both. They really come through for us with creative ways to save money.” Said Joel Quadracci, Quad/Graphics President & Chief Operating Officer: “Quad/Graphics’ goal of providing Newsweek with superior service has only sharpened with time. We’re thrilled to be recognized as Newsweek’s preferred vendor for the 21st year in a row. “Our focus and discipline have consistently demonstrated to Newsweek why Quad/Graphics is the best newsweekly printer in the nation,” Mr. Quadracci said. Each calendar year, Newsweek judges its printers on specific criteria: 1) quality, 2) paper waste on covers, 3) paper waste on current forms, 4) turnaround time from the last file to the first book, 5) time needed to produce the first 100,000 books, 6) bindery books per hour, and 7) service and support. Six plants vied for Newsweek’s coveted award, with Quad/Graphics’ Hartford, Wis., plant handily taking top honors. Added Mr. Heeman, “Quad does a good job for us at all their plants, but Hartford stands out even among the Quad plants. It’s by far the best newsweekly plant in the country.” Quad/Graphics’ relationship with Newsweek has spanned more than 29 years. Currently, we produce 2.2 million copies each week in four plants across the nation. In addition to our Hartford, Wis., plant, Quad/Graphics also produces Newsweek in our facilities in The Rock, Ga., Oklahoma City, Okla., and Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
