HP Indigo Printing Helps LaVigne Streamline Customer Communications with Web to Press Digital Delivery

Press release from the issuing company

PALO ALTO, Calif., February 13, 2006 -- HP today announced that LaVigne, Inc., Worcester, Mass., is powering effective digital communication strategies for enterprise customers with the cost-efficiency and offset-quality color of the HP Indigo press 5000. A longtime HP Indigo site that has become one of the country’s top 50 digital print providers, the 100+ employee firm uses the new HP Indigo press 5000 and two HP Indigo press 3050s to conduct everything from online collateral management to behavior-based triggered direct mail on demand. Digital printing generates approximately 40 percent of LaVigne’s annual earnings, with the majority of business coming in the form of online collateral orders for sell sheets, brochures and catalogs. Providing a full marketing solution that encompasses online, customer relationship management (CRM) tools and high-end variable data printing, LaVigne provides successful marketing strategies for financial, manufacturing and other regional clients, including New Balance Athletic Shoe, 3Com, and Sepracor, the Boston-based pharmaceutical firm. “LaVigne’s real-time communications applications are capturing the full potential of today’s digital opportunity,” said Alon Bar-Shany, vice president and general manager, Indigo Division, HP. “This boosts the bottom line for its customers and also contributes to long-term success in a challenging, ever-changing marketplace.” To help customers create scalable campaigns that reach the right audience, LaVigne provides sophisticated customer relationship management solutions that rely on the quality, flexibility and productivity of HP Indigo presses. At trade shows and other events for customers, the company uses digital pen systems that instantly transmit written information requests to a database, where they are merged with a QuarkXPress file and produced as variable data print pieces on HP Indigo presses – all within minutes. In addition, LaVigne’s PerformanceFlow management system streamlines in-house production through online ordering, proofing and job tracking and integrates seamlessly into HP’s front-end solution for the HP Indigo press 5000. The front-end solution, comprised of HP Production Flow and software from HP partner Printable Technologies, creates a highly automated production environment that enables central job-control functions to be automated, making even the smallest jobs more profitable. “The big advantage of the HP Indigo press 5000 for us is being able to more efficiently produce short runs,” said Chris Wells, LaVigne’s president and chief executive. “It’s about a 35 percent increase in productivity due in part to the fact that files come to us in a format that’s ready to print. The elimination of previous fixed costs on the digital workflow is a significant change in the technology side of making print on demand a reality.”
